I'm not really sure that I agree with the title of this since she really wasn't the focal point of the book.. until the end. I did really enjoy reading it- I didn't realize it was about witchcraft, but I'm glad it was.

I really liked what he did with the Ring Cycle, but these just didn't quite live up to it. I Pagliacci was good, though.

i loved this book. i really like that bella and edward have renesmee and then they are all vampires or half immortal. i love that jacob is very involved and imprints on renesmee too. i learned that when you stick together you can do anything and save someone.

VERY excited about reading this book. i hope i haven't hyped it up too much - to myself! Had to return it to the library... haven't picked it up again yet. Later... bought a used copy on line, it's in the queue of books to read!
I really liked this book. At first I thought it would be a light read, but it wasn't. The characterizations were really good and brought out well through the epistolary style. But I learned about personal rebuilding post WWII. I laughed out loud and even cried. It's been a while for a book to do either of those things for me.

Tash Aw brilliantly tells this riveting and absorbing tale through the perspectives of three people who had close personal relationship with the main character; Johnny Lim. The way the book starts with Johnny's son, Jasper, narrating the story of his father based on background research and memory; then abruptly turning to Johnny's late wife's diary entries and eventually ending with Johnny's once best friend, Peter's confessions was a novel idea - not an easy one to execute but Tash Aw did it….and did it flawlessly. While 'The Harmony Silk Factory' is not a historical view of Malaya during the British occupation of the land, neither is it a tale of heroism and triumph of the human spirit. This is a story of a son unraveling his non-affectionate father's past and ultimately realising why his father became the kind of man that he was in that time in history in Malaya. The story has enough humor to make it an enjoyable ride even though the tale is griping and poignant in the end. The justified critical accolades for the author, is well deserved indeed.

I really like this author and once again found his parenting ideas to be good for our family.
The ending is OK. I don't like Em Watts at all, for a girl who often thinks of herself as smart she ends up with too many stupid mistakes. For the protagonists' characters: 1.5 The whole package: 3
