Holy crap, this book made me cry. I really wasn't expecting that, you know. I mean, Mercy's stories are good and everything but I wasn't expecting it to pack enough emotional wallop to make me tear up. Since it blindsided me, I'm going to have to slap it on the back and throw it into my "2011 favorites" pile. Yes, I really do have one of those. I like to keep track of things that blow my mind. ( Things that are on that list: the cover to Jaci Burton's The Perfect Play, the paranormal historical romance sub-genre, and finding candy canes that I hid from myself after Christmas.) Here's the kicker, the thing that made the book for me is something I don't want to spoil everyone on. Seriously, not seeing it coming was one of the highlights of the book. So I'm just going to say that the things that Ben said to Adam destroyed me. I mean, this is Ben we're talking about. He's a surly jackass who hate women and I ended up liking the guy. Who knew?!? Except, since I'm not talking about the thing I'm sort of at a loss as to what else I can talk about. I will say that the love triangle is resolved fairly quickly and without a lot of fuss or muss. As usual, the secondary characters shine and Mercy is her normal combative self. Overall, this is another solid adventure with Mercy and crew. The mystery isn't mind bending but it shows us more of the Fae world (which I find fascinating). And then there's that thing that made me cry. I even teared up the second time I read it (the 2nd time being purely scientific research- I wanted to see if the first time was a fluke. Which it obviously wasn't.). While the idea of the book deserves 5 stars, the book itself does not. Each chapter seems to repeat in slightly different wordings what was said in the previous chapter. When they explained the design and production of a perfect degradable T-shirt that was also good for the workers in the factory and even became a financial success, I was left wondering why then I have not seen it in the shops. After 140 pages, I put the book down...

2.5 stars A few people have already pointed this out and I have to agree- this book is based on some pretty whacky and unlikely coincidences. The main character must be the luckiest man alive, that's all I can say. Some parts of the book were absolutely hilarious. The first segment which was based in Ireland was B-O-R-I-N-G and a complete waste of words. The Las Vegas segment was my favourite, probably because I had seen alot of what he explained first hand when I travelled there recently. I stayed at the Bellagio as well, so it was awesome to read about his experiences there. Some of the graphic explanations of golf and poker had me drifting off and the writing style was distinctly 'male'. I have no doubt the author did that so his book would appeal to men over women. All in all, it was very funny in parts, but the quality of writing just wasn't there the whole way through the book.

Execution can kill a good story. Unfortunately, the way Pursuit, A Tale of Bishop’s Island by Jason Garrett was executed really took away from a good story. Won in a Good Reads First Reads giveaway, I was excited to start reading Garrett’s second installment on Bishop’s Island. I have not read the first novel set on the island and it was not necessary that I do so. This novel has drama, mystery, love, and action. This is where that execution takes its toll. Some areas are detailed to death; others do not have the detail needed to convey the situation/setting/emotion. I was also disappointed that the characters, although likable, were really caricatures of the roles they were playing. Religious struggles are given some prominence in the story, but I did not feel the depth was given to make it a viable focal point. There are many great aspects of this story, if proper attention can be given to flesh out the shallow points and skim off the unnecessary places, this could be a great mystery adventure. In short a good editor and some rewriting could make this mediocre novel an extraordinary one.

The book is filled with some humorous suggestions from various husbands on the expectations of the verbiage their wife should produce or the actions she should display. By the way, there is a book for the HUSBANDS TOO : )

They changed almost everything in the movie & judging the movie now, it was horrible! If you enjoyed the movie & haven't read the books, I definitely recommend them :)

Has there ever been a book in which the narrator declared themselves to be completely truthful and had them not be at least a little unreliable? That's not a spoiler, by the way- try to find a review of this book that doesn't warn for this. Micah, the lead, swears to tell her story in a strictly factual way on the first page, and by the end, even that's in doubt. To be honest, I usually hate anything involving unreliable narrators and dubious endings. Maybe the warnings paid off; I was able to ignore the confusion and just settle into Micah's brain. I did enjoy this book a lot, and would recommend it as one of the better YA out there.
