So the book starts out pretty basic, Deet is a kid with no friends who pretty much runs his family because his parents are to busy. Deet's dad is actually his step dad, he's never met his real dad. But his step dad is dad to Deet. With the economy so bad his dad has to work two jobs to take care of the three kids and his wife. When you don't expect it, the book get a lot more involved and his dad goes to jail for using drugs to keep himself awake for both job. At first Deet was really scared about visiting his dad, but once his mom goes to work he decides to make it part of his after school schedule. He starts to realize that these people all have stories just like his dad, and that prison is nothing like it is in the movies. I really like this book because it keeps you guessing and you never expect what happens. I like that it is written so Deet comes right out and says how he feels unlike other books where people deny their feelings all the time. Kirkpatrick Hill makes it really easy for me to relate to the book. I'm not saying everyone will, but I definatly knew exactly how Deet felt! I would recommend this book to anyone who can handle it. It's kind of a more mature book. The only thing I didn't like was the last two pages. I'm not gonna tell you what happened, but I thought that there were a million other ways the book could have ended and that wasn't the best choice.
Kraukaer tells a story without being judgmental--this is not always easy to do. It could have ended so differently if only certain things hadn't happened and the young man would have been a folk hero of sorts.

So good I own this one. Lots of articles from a variety of authors. Recommended at my presentation at KASL Fall Conference 2011

extremely concise and makes valid points about running outstanding businesses in the social sector... I think it's probably a secret TFA bible

I read this before I saw the show (which was amazing). It's a bit hard to read but very interesting.
Very interesting book. I would probably have given it five stars, but I have a little trouble buying into science fiction/fantasy type plots. Still, enjoyed the characters and have become quite attached to them!

He asks questions I, the average person, would be interested in but maybe it never occurred to me to ask. Like would a "Roshanda called by any other name smell as sweet" which then launches into a chapter all about names. Particularly interesting, why some black Americans choose to name their children ethnic, group-reflective names. The book offers, for the most part, unexpected conclusions about the questions they ask, which I think is key if you are going to try to reach beyond the group of typical economists and engage people who are much less experienced but are just as curious as the humorously self-deprecating Steven Levitt.
This is the third book in the Bloody Jack series and it was very fun to listen to. The narrator has an Eliza Doolittle type accent and that is half the fun. In this third book Jacky Faber continues to get herself into dangerous, hilarious, warm and fuzzy, and sometimes sad situations. She is a very endearing character. She gets herself into all kinds of trouble, but she's kind and funny and she stands up for what's right. I would describe these books as pure listening joy - they are so much fun and I can't wait to listen to the next one.
