Wo! I mean WO! I really thought I wasn't going to be able to sit through this one (because of the utterly brutal and disturbing premise) and then I could not put it down. I was so addicted.
** spoiler alert ** i really really loved these stories and holly and justine's war is epic! i myself am on team zombie, although i loved the killer unicorns... the only story in here that i just DIDN'T LIKE was the one where the princess and the unicorn had sex. that was just disturbing!!!!!! and badly done, the narrater was horrible! it almost was like the unicorn raped her and that just puts unicorns in a WHOLE DIFFERENT LIGHT!!!!!! altogether this is a great collection and the authors did a really good job!!!! i recommend this to anyone and everyone who love fantasy with zombies and unicorns!!!!!!! go zombie love and killer unicorns!!!!! yay!!!!!!
love it - very true to life!

I'm still thinking this book through after finishing it a few days ago. Not that it's that amazing, just that it has a lot of interesting perspectives. Oliver James's last book (they f*** you up) was all about how your experiences in your first four years of life impact your later personality and development. In this next work he uses similar tools to look at how the wider society impacts the mind, and largely focussing on how what he calls Selfish Capitalism increases the level of mental illness in a society. Be warned, he's quite anti-American (as a shorthand for a certain type of capitalism), and he's a bit of a reactionary (wants the UK government to prevent any foreign ownership of the UK media, or in fact of any property in the UK!), but his politics is actually less important than you might think. In the end, this book is an exhortation to develop intrinsic values rather than consumerist values, and to focus on family, friends and true joys in life. Worth a read if you're stuck in the rat race and wondering where it's all going.

wonderful!!!
Another book where I've seen the movie first, and can't help but to compare. The book's story is longer (obviously), but from what I can remember I'm not sure that the extra chapters add that much more to the overall heart of the book. It's a cute book; a fast read. I didn't particularly fall in love with any of the characters, and while the movie was condensed it plays out the basic story of the novel.

It took me about 250 pages to get into this book. And then I basically wanted to marry it.

This book is ridiculous. The movie is crazier.

I've read all of Frances Mayes's previous books, enjoying them for the lyrical prose and the voyeuristic view of life in Tuscany, but the formula has grown tired. There's something about Mayes that has crossed over to being grating, particularly at the point where she's worrying about their investment portfolio and whether they have enough money to renovate their Tuscan villa. Boy, life is tough...
