So far this is an impressive collection of stories about Chicago, "a writer's town and a fighter's town" according to Nelson Algren. From Dreiser to Mamet, this offers a wide spectrum of what and who Chicago is.

Own. This is my favorite book right now. I like the part when Heidi comes home to Grandfather. [Mommy note: she needs an unabridged version.]

2.5 stars This book had a lovely set up - the author is soo good at creating charming sweet little worlds with lovely characters - but the story and development of all these things needed a LOT more polishing. And the inclusion of the characters from the first book failed so badly. They were like cardboard cut-outs in this book, just terrible.

Based in the 1930's South. Interesting characters and story line. I wish I had liked the main character a little more. I have a tendency to want heroines with really pure souls and very few measure up :) I can see why the main character had the faults she had but still...I guess very few can live up to Queenie in The Persian Pickle Club. The story line delves into racism and there's a bit of homosexuality but not enough that I was uncomfortable.

** spoiler alert ** The first Nicholas Sparks book which didn't make me cry!! I was expecting somebody to die and it's be a sad, tearful ending but hey- this one's like a fairytale! :) When Doris came to Jeremy's house later, I thought he'd later find out that it was actually her ghost or something that made him go back to Lexie and then he'd start believing in miracles. Well something like that- something sad! Liked it though! :)

Well, I finished it. I kept waiting for it to get better. In the end I turned the last page feeling unsatisfied. The book felt like unconnected ramblings built on an uncredible premise. Willie Templetons mother gave her hints about who her father was and then "sent" her on a quest to find him. There were inter-chapters in the voice of long dead ancestors, a ghost, hidden letters and the monster (think Loch Ness or Champy)in the lake.. Actually writing about it makes it seem more coherent than it is. In the end blah. The one insight that I enjoyed was the insight, fictional though it may be, into Cooperstown, NY. Now I want to go to Cooperstown and read the history there.
A wonderful look at one of the most capacious, interesting and important minds of the 20th Century. Feynman's life and contribution to science should be read by anyone who has a remote interest into how the world works.

Even though I have my qualms concerning this saga, I now gave it a shot, and as far as I have come by now, I can safely say that Bella is unbearably naive in my eyes. I might like to rephrase that at some later point, but right now it's all a slight bit too much of romanticising perfection, petty insecurities and various unimportant characters thrown all over the place on a solely secular level of observance. The storytelling doesn't amaze me as much either, but something keeps you to it. ;) I also hope that the plot gets more captivating throughout what follows. / Later addendum: No, the plot did not captivate at all. In fact, Stephenie Meyer is helplessly attempting to build suspense over the course of the entire book, yet completely fails in doing so, as the book ends with a dull feeling of nothing actually having happened. The worst thing about this complete mishap of a dramatic climax is that you can absolutely foresee it. I abide by making my visit into the world Twilight an only-one-time weekend stay to find out what the fuss was all about. While I cannot not agree with what Anne Rice explained she thought of this novel, I define this thing by what she didn't say: Unoriginal low-depth. A well-regretted waste for anyone who truly loves vampires. ... True vampires.
