As close to perfect as a tale can get! Very few books move me to tears - this one did just that. Without giving up any spoilers, I'll say that the tragedy portrayed as this story came to its close was very real, very personal. I could feel and sympathize with the heroine and her decision. The Iron Queen is very poignant; a delicious tapestry of images and characters that pull you in from the outset. This is the first book I've read by Julie, and definitely not my last! Her writing is flawless. By the end of the book, I felt a kinship with the characters - something you don't always find in fantasy. I highly reccomend this book - you won't be disappointed! Two thumbs way up!

I would have given it another star except that as in several of Cory's other books, I feel like the "good-vibey" push of his character's ideas - in this instance, the wireless internet scheme - feels too much like the author is attempting to push the ideas on ME a little too obviously.

I read about this author in the newspaper and was happy to support local talent. The book was very well-written, but extremely dark for a Young Adult book (unless it's just me getting older!). I'm also a candy fiend, so I identified in that way with the main girls, and loved their interaction with a mentor figure. Overall, though I just felt a little unsatisfied with the characters and the conclusion. I will definitely watch for Walde in the future!

A curse word can be found in every second line and a graphic sex scene in every fourth. Sensational descriptions of a path that is as close to life as it is close to death make you want to look for a decadent partner just like Carlos in order to get a taste of what it feels like to literally live on the edge. Even if you would not think that this is the central message of the book, this novel talks about the difficulties of a bourgeois life; security prompts extreme misbehaviour which is ever so attractive to observe.
