Read this for a bookclub. Stewart is a clear and lucid writer (despite being trained as a lawyer). The story of Milken, Levine, and the junkbond kingpins of the '80s is really amazing: to watch the money build and build, and then watch it all fall apart.

I am going to check this one out again once my daughter is a bit older. I think it will be great in a year or so.

For those of you who read "I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell" and thought, Tucker Max was awesome, this book will continue that thought process. If you read "IHTSBIH" and thought Tucker Max was an inconsiderate jerk with no feelings incapable of love, you will be proven wrong. Is it as good as "IHTSBIH" no? But how can you top something that is already a perfect encapsulation of frat boy lore?

the nuyorican experience between the 50s and 70s should be learned by nuyoricans today.
Jenny introduced me to Winterson way back in high school. This was the first book I read of hers and thought it was amazing. A must read for all.

This is one of those books that I was hooked on from the first chapter. I don't know what exactly drew me in about it, but I loved it and couldn't put it down. I loved the contemporary setting and how (even though it is totally impossible) it seemed like this entire world could be real. However, as much as I loved the book, there are some aspects of it (and the rest of the series) that I disliked, especially Bella's character. I don't think her actions are exactly that of a good role-model. Even though Stephenie Meyer has insisted that Bella's not anti-feminist, it sure seems like it. She's a little bit pathetic in the way she is sooooooo attached to Edward, and how she feels she can't have a life without this guy. That's not exactly the kind of thing that girls should aspire to be. Something about these books, though, always has me coming back for more.... I have read every book in the series about 4 times, unless I forgot and actually read them more. I probably would recommend these, but not to somebody who is looking for real vampire sci-fi stuff, since there is definitely more romance than supernatural action.
