This is the second book about the resuscitated Sherlock Holmes in the 21st century. It continues to bring the feel of a Sherlock Holmes mystery but with a modern flair. Holmes is now using technology which he is unaccustomed to and we feel the struggle he has in adjusting to the constantly changing society. A great read and I look forward to the next book hopefully real soon.

The first 200-300 pages were painful(book has 700 plus pages) but once you were able to get through those pages the book was pretty good and moved pretty quickly. I have never read any of Wally Lamb's books so I cannot compare it to his other works but I have heard that this is not his best book.

Alice Hoffman does a wonderful job of weaving a story that traces a town from it's beginning to the present. She follows the descendants of the original families, choosing one or two people from each time period to focus on. Each chapter is a different person's story, from a different decade. I love Hoffman's incorporation of supernatural details and just enough description so that you can feel like you're there. She does an excellent job tying the characters and other elements together over time. I've always been a fan of Hoffman's writing style, and this book doesn't disappoint. She makes her characters believable and creates such a beautiful setting for her story. I highly recommend!

I read this over the summer while in Istanbul and wavered between liking it and being exceptionally bored. I wanted the author to stick to his memories of the city, but there was a lot about just the city that left me...wanting more. His memoir writing was pretty great, though.
