I saw this book at half priced books, and I thought, "why not." so I bought it, and im so glad I did. This book is genius. I will definitely read more Oscar Wilde.

I didn't really get this book. Who the hell is the Green Lady? What exactly caused Sir Simeon to go mad? I feel like nothing was explained in the book. It just was. But whatever. The reason I liked this book so much was because of the setting. It was very isolated and gray and dark. But also beautiful. I loved the fact that Rayne wanted to get away from the city and all the noise and just think. Morton's Keep was so peaceful & I just loved it. I feel like if I were a young teen, I would have maybe liked this book more and been more spooked by it. But I still really did enjoy it. Not really interested in reading the next book in this series but if I find myself at a loss for what to read next maybe I will pick it up. Who knows?

My copy of Alice is inscribed: "To Michelle, For reaching the mighty goal of Book III [Suzuki violin], Love from Mum XXX, 5th April 1985". I dont remember really loving it as a ten year old though. If asked, im sure i would have said that it is wonderfully inventive, but that it doesnt hang together as a novel well ;)
When I first read this book about 10 years ago, it blew my mind. I go back to it from time to time for a refresher of its ideas, or simply to be encouraged and inspired. Palmer provides a compelling and accessible introduction to epistemology in general, and explains why the purely "objective" approach to knowledge that most of us were taught in school is incomplete and misleading. He describes learning in terms of relationships - to ourselves, our teachers, our fellow learners, and to whatever/whoever it is we're studying, making the case that these relationships can (and should) affect our learning significantly in a variety of ways. Palmer writes primarily for teachers, but his ideas apply to anyone who is teaching or learning anything at all, in any stage of life. This is a short, simple book but it has to be read slooooooowly to be absorbed. Better yet, read it with someone else and talk through the ideas.

Great book - terrific exploration of a hypothesis by examining its most extreme expression.
Another funny, insightful book, but not as strong as "Me Talk Pretty One Day."
