It took me awhile to get my brain back after reading this book. Very powerful.

Excellent antidote to trendy pessimism. Ridley is a gifted writer, and the book is hugely enjoyable.

i read this on my own when I was 13 and i loved it. Now i have started to read it again. It really shows how willing people are to forget horrible things. It also shows how much some are willing to sacrifice to expose and destroy evil, whether it is a Nazi or not. It is powerful and thrilling, right up until the last page.

A very good ending to the series I feel. J.K. Rowling has done an excellent job in the creation of characters that we wish to constantly know how they are doing. There is crying and cheering out loud. Laughing and much suspense. This book is drastically different from the others and has a war novel feel to it, so if you haven't read any of the other books, don't start with this one, you'll get wholey lost after page 3 maybe 4.

An account of the South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission by a poet-turned-journalist. Specifically, a chilling narrative of the country's bloody history. More generally, wonderful reflections on truth, justice, reconciliation, and trauma.

Wendy Burden grew up the great-great-great-great granddaughter of Cornelius Vanderbilt. Her family was loaded to the gills, and she outlines the privileged lifestyle she grew up with. Think Gatsby meets Chelsea Handler. She's also acerbic to the point of hillarious, from dogging her mother for being such a tan-freak(she likens her to a rotisserie chicken at one point) to trying to figure out how to try to get noticed by her male relatives, who competely ignore her for the simple fact she's a female. It brings you back to a time when this was the 'norm' in many households, as it was the 50/60's frame of mind that the men folk were the ones who ruled the roost and women were just scenery. The Vanderbilts/Burdens were quite the bunch. You get a quick sense of how Wendy, a strong willed intelligent female, managed to survive in this madcap madhouse- by pretending she was Wednesday Addams. A down-to-earth, witty, and heartwarming at parts(namely dealing with the death of her grandfather, one of the family that would just never accept her as anything other than a spare(instead of a heir). I could easily see Wendy writing a self-help book(sarcastic, of course).

A good book about a movement I missed by about 8 years. It was a great time to leave college, leave america and start over in a new eastern europe. I, like the Author, would have chosen Budapest---now that's a city.

Full of sweetness and sting, this story can make you ache over the way life unfolds, not straight but full of zigzags and corners into which sorrow and grace creep. One of its anecdotes rang especially true to me, one about painting the house and what it means to love one's sister, or anyone. I loved this book.
Andrew Bridgeford takes a very thorough look at the events of 1066, which lead to the Norman Conquest of England. His main purpose of doing so is to explain the iconography of the Bayeaux Tapestry, challenging the long accepted interpretations of the embroidered tale. He comes up with some very interesting theories and clearly has done his research, but sometimes with 11th century history, you just can't prove things. Bridgeford runs into this problem at times. I think his ideas are very good and provocative, whether or not they are actually true or not.

Se podría pensar que un escritor podría organizar una historia y hacer un punto coherente. Aparentemente no. No vale la pena el tiempo y no hace una historia o argumento convincente.
