Overall A quick love story that was plenty sexy but left me unsatisfied. Some elements may be specific to me, and if you want a steamy summer read, this could be it. Definite focus on hot...not plot. Review Going in, I knew this story was going to be heavier on the sex appeal and lighter on the other elements, but I still felt it was lacking. To some extent, you need to suspend disbelief, especially depending on your feelings of love at first sight (or its many incarnations). I struggled at the beginning with these two men feeling much of anything for one another above the belt, but as the cruise came to an end, I sympathized with Bryan's emotional struggles and his desire to avoid Phil in order to numb the pain. So I could buy that they felt very intensely about one another...but the ending still left me wrinkling my nose. It felt rushed to the point of unfinished, and I couldn't buy that all the answers were given. Because there are more books with the characters, the conclusion is obviously on going, but I still felt a little side-swiped by the ending. The characters were a little two-dimensional, but for what was being offered in this story (sexy, light BDSM), there isn't a call for deeper characters, and little of the setting provided a contrast, as the sunny ship isn't exactly ideal for broadening personalities. Still, if you're looking for two guys who get hot and heavy with some spanking and commands, some light emotional plot, but not much else, this will be a pleasant beach read. Be sure to check out my other reviews on my blog.
An interesting examination of poverty in early twentieth century Europe. Orwell seems to have gotten off easy however - he avoids reaching any definitive conclusions about the effects of destitution on humankind, and fails to provide enough material for the reader to do so himself.

My father kept honeybees while I was growing up - I have a fondness for them and a respect for beekeepers, in spite of the stings.

This is one of my all time favorite books ever. It shows how the role of women has evolved over time in America... and it is not a straight, consistent march to independence by any means. It is well-written, funny, and insightful. My surprise was how women have been darting back and forth between workplace and home over the past few generations.
Ok yes, totally cringe-worthy cover, but I really enjoyed this! It's been a while since a book so engaged me that I stole any spare moment I could to read a few pages. The plot isn't particularly strong, nor is the world building. But the two main characters make the book. The magic system is unique ... the environment of the world is extremely volatile and cursed with natural disasters like tornadoes and floods that would threaten to destroy all humanity. However, certain people, known as Sources, can diffuse these natural forces but cannot do so without the aid of another person, a Shield, to prevent these forces from overtaking and ultimately killing them. This magic system sets up the book to really explore the dynamics between two people. Taro and Lee are both very flawed in realistic and endearing ways, and I just love them. I will definitely read the next immediately. For some reason, Taro kind of reminds me of Finnick from the Hunger Games Trilogy, which is an extremely good thing!

Absolutely the worst Barbara Delinsky novel I've ever read. Three sisters, Annette, Caroline and Leah St. Claire are invited to spend 2 weeks at a palatial Maine estate their 70 year old mother has just refurbished. Despite the fact that none of the three girls likes their mother (Ginny was a cold and distant parent) all three of them show up and spend most of the time dealing with their sisterly issues because Ginny is late to her own reunion. It's very hard to relate to the characters in this book. They're all super-rich and, in their own way, successful. Caroline is a high-powered attorney, Annette is married to a neurosurgeon and the mother of five, Leah has an active social life in Washington where she does charity work. These three women wander around eating gourmet food, shopping for expensive art and return to the estate in the evening to complain about how mommy was lacking. Oh, and they hear a story about the house; 45 years ago a rich woman had an affair with the gardener. That's it. Seriously, that's the story. Instead of finding it sleazy, all three girls go dewy eyed over this sordid tale in spite of the fact that the rich woman abandoned her 'true love' in favor of her so-so husband and his money. Ginny shows up after they realize she was the rich woman in the story and all is instantly forgiven, even her admission that her parental detachment was due to the 'emotional maiming' she suffered when she broke it off with the gardener. Please. This book was an embarrassment. I don't know who should be more ashamed: Delinsky for writing it or me for reading it.

Javen and Gara are a genetically created couple. Javen in a dragon shapeshifter: his is an old race; they are very strong but also clever, they are driven by intellect. But they are also a cold blood race and need a balance with a warmer race. Gara is a half-feline race: they are smaller in body than the dragon, but they are stronger and more primitive; they are driven by passion and need the cold behaviour of their dragon. Every dragon is paired with their mate when his companion is still a cub, and they rear their mate, they teach them everything, and it is time, they mated with them. Humans used these couples like warrior and allow them to stay together. But now some scientists has found something strange in Javen and wants to conduct more experiment in him. Javen knows that his mate never allows to nobody to hurt him and together they will find a way to be free, forever. Not so short but still a little too. This is a fantastic novel, I think one of the best I read lately by Changeling Press. Javen and Gara are a wonderful couple. Javen is so cool! He is older and taller than Gara, and he has also a sober behaviour but with a subtle humor you can discover sometimes in his action. Gara is all fire, all passion. He is younger but his dragon has taught him to be a dominant and he has fully learnt the lesson. But he is also capable of extreme tenderness for his dragon. Fortunately I think this is a first installment of a new series cause I really want to now how Javen and Gara will deal with their new life. The futuristic novels by Stephanie Burke have always a taste of bitterness and a breeze of hope in them: I also reccomend Shadow Dancer, edit by Loose Id Many compliments also to Karen Fox for her wonderful cover, even if I imagine Javen a little bit taller http://elisa-rolle.livejournal.com/11...
