Second volume of Dresden languages professor Klemperer's secret diary which he kept from 1933-1945. He was spared deportation because he was married to an Aryan woman, but they were still deprived of their home, job, books, typewriter, radio, newspapers, etc. A fascinating view of the war from ground level and from those kept in the dark about what was happening, except for rumors. Klemperer and his wife amazingly survived the war (and the destruction of Dresden). His second wife compiled and deciphered the many pages of his diary that were secretly kept by Aryan friends throughout the war and published them in German in 1995 and in English in 1999.

Very, very good. The first essay is the gem though. Read Winter of 2007.

Having read the whole series and thoroughly enjoyed each book, I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone who either has an interest in English history or who just enjoys a ripping story

Typical Jodi Picoult. Thought provoking issues, story narrated from different characters's points of view, shock-factor plotlines. Many different topics high-lighted in story such as....would you continue with a pregnancy if you were aware of severe complications with the baby? would you be willing to file a wrongful birth lawsuit to gain compensation to help pay for a child's medical needs? Teens dealsing with eating disorders and cutting are also part of the story. The typical Jodi Picoult part is an unexpected death of one of the characters towards the end of the story.

Charlee Jacob's books have interesting themes told in extremely grotesque ways. This one involves Khmer Rouge atrocities, war, duality, Hindu gods, and some crazy violence. I have a pretty strong stomach for gore and the twisted, and this was almost too much. There's one scene involving maggots that I almost couldn't read. That said, she adds a new vision to the genre - very inventive horror.
