Good cocktail party examples of current statistical applications. Learn how credit card companies can predict divorce and why oenophiles are against quantitative analysis of weather patterns. But the book doesn't get beyond a list of interesting uses or applications. There's no surprise in the book other than 'they are watching and tracking our every move and purchase' and no grand theory other than 'computers allow the use of greater sized data sets and more quantitative analysis over qualitative experts.'

I am coming to the defense of this "Starbucks" reading material as Sarah so gently put it...One of the most creative perspectives on "heaven" and death that you will find. You can read it in a day so it won't take up a lot of your time. Give it a chance.
I didn't like the 'heroine' at all. Her 'inner turmoil' and 'struggles' annoyed me to no end. If readers want to have a go with the Beauty and the Beast concept, I would recommend Teresa Medeiros over this book.

I don’t often say this about series books, but this fourth book was the best and most hilarious book of the four, and that says a lot coming from me, as the first three books received 5 stars each from me as well. This book, more than any other, makes me wish I had a humor shelf at Goodreads, but I don’t want my (1) lifechanging book knocked off my profile page, so humorless I will remain. Absolutely hilarious. I found myself laughing out loud so many times, sometimes uncontrollably laughing again a page or two or three after a particularly amusing part. Warped, black humor, often my favorite kind, but I loved this especially because it’s also a story with heart, with people I can care about, however bizarrely they sometimes behave. I love the Spellmans and every character in the book: especially Izzy, Rae, Olivia, Albert, Maggie, David, Henry, Fred, Morty, and Len and Christopher. By the way, I’d have loved to have had the latter two’s dossiers included in the appendix. It takes much inventiveness to have created these people; I will not say characters. This was a perfect comfort read for me. Lisa Lutz has said there will be at least one more book but probably not until at least 2012. Waiting will not be fun. I highly recommend this series, which must be read in order: #1: The Spellman Files, #2: Curse of the Spellmans, #3: Revenge of the Spellmans, and then this one, #4: The Spellmans Strike Again, which amazingly enough was the best of all of them; the series keeps getting better and better. As with the other three books, this is mostly a very funny book, even the chapter titles are amusing, but there are some sad parts and along with a bit of seriousness, this book includes a social conscience. So, it all came together and it has the best end, although I’d have loved it even if the ending had been less satisfying because the whole reading experience was incredibly entertaining Check out the author’s web site and http://lisalutz.com/ and a mild spoiler here: http://www.innocenceproject.org/Conte..., and there are other web pages about this, most with link’s from the author’s site. I would be ecstatic if I owned these four Spellman books, but I’m very grateful to my public library for the opportunity to read them. However, some day I may not be able to resist (maybe when the last book is published) and might buy them all. I’d like to read sections when I need a mood elevator and I’d love to support this author, who manages to be funny even in her author bio section in the inside back cover of the book(s).

fun read. Flavia de Luce is a fun character. An 11 year old sleuth in 1950's England. Very clever English humor.

Journey of a young Englishman into a part of Africa previously not explored by Europeans. This book allows the reader to re-live Parks journey in a place that will never exist again. Park took this trip and published his journal for the Royal Explorers Society in London (need to check the name). Because of this we now have an accurate veiw of the how highly developed and well functioning societies were in Africa during the 1700-1800's. In addition to this book's historical significance, it is an exciting story about a man who takes a trip that causes him(stop reading if you don't want to know anything about the story itself) to be kidnapped by Moors and taken to the brink of death only to be granted mercy.

This novel compelled me to to take a look at my current walk with God and the foundation of my faith. I would recommend this book to anyone who is just beginning their walk with God and need a sort of impetus to loving God

** spoiler alert ** I read a recap of this book well before I read the Twilight series. NY Mag suggested that people who haven't read Twilight read the site just for kicks. THAT'S how ridiculous this book is - people read a recap of the book for humor.
In Memory of Greed is, in a word, fantastic. From the first page to the last, I was riveted by Al Boudreau’s story of corruption and greed, and by the plight of former Navy SEAL, Murhkin Mocado, an unwilling player in a heinous plot for power by men long devoid of humanity. Boudreau’s pacing and ability to paint a vivid picture of the action are extraordinary. When I was done reading this book, I felt as if I had just watching a great mystery/thriller film — and I hope some day that will be a reality. The author’s skill in telling a story and in creating complex characters allowed me to actually “see” the story unfold every bit of the way. There were no wasted words or unnecessary scenes. His descriptions were so good that I could visualize the places in Africa where I have never been. What a pleasure to get lost in such an absorbing, colorful, and well-written read. I look forward to this author’s next work in a big way. A brilliant debut.
