I love Nancy Warren's books and I didn't want to stop reading this one. I hated when it ended. I wanted more. Why the 3? Because even though it was hilarious as all Nancy Warren's books are and even because the sex was Smokin' Hot, the main character was too stupid to live. She was so incredibly likable though. I was rooting for her the entire time. I wanted her and her flaws to get the gorgeous guy. So what if he was the one who put her in danger making me question his IQ as well. Still Jake made up for it by saving Cyn over and over and over again. They were a couple of people whose hearts were totally in the right place. They did stupid things, but they meant well. One thing that bothered me was the missed opportunities for tension and the easy acceptance of the end of past relationships. Cyn was engaged for six years then when she kicks her boyfriend out of her life, he goes without a fight then has a girlfriend immediately and it's okay, no questions asked. I think it bothered me because other than small anomalies, Cyn was completely relatable. She was turning thirty and realizing she hadn't been young yet. She lived in the home she grew up in and hadn't made it her own. She suddenly realized her job was boring the bejezus out of her. Who hasn't felt that? Who, once they'd realized all those things, wouldn't want to do a hot FBI agent? Exactly. So that's why I wanted more even though I didn't believe some of the story. It was well written, but not well told. It was still worth the time and effort to read it. I loved it, but I didn't. Would I read it again? Probably if I needed a little happy mindless diversion. It's a good book. It's a fun book. It's not the best Nancy Warren book I've ever read. I'm sure I'll gush over the next one.

I don’t know that I would call Kellan’s Dragons a romance. At least not at this point. But it is the first book in the “Dragon Wars” series, and all of the elements for a potential romance are there, so it will be interesting to see how the series develops. Kellan is a girl with some pretty intense psionic abilities. And, just in case you are like me and have no idea what psionics are, the term refers to using the mind to create paranormal phenomena (thanks Wikipedia!). Kellan has had this ability her entire life (think Roald Dahl’s Matilda on steroids). She is roped into government service so that she can psionically link to a dragon. The dragons are being used in a war against opposing governments, and it has been discovered that a bond between psion and dragon makes them better fighters. Kellan happens to be the strongest psion seen by the government in about 200 years. Naturally, they choose to pair her with a pretty intense dragon, but Jericho, another dragon, has other plans. Jericho is one of the oldest in the Compound, and though he isn’t terribly keen on the idea, he links with Kellan. Kellan, because of her intense mental abilities, can tell that Jericho is keeping something from her. While you do find out by the end of the book what that something is, it really wouldn’t do for me to tell you, now would it? Bottom line: this book is quite clearly the first in the series. It spends a lot of time creating a backstory that will inevitably come into play down the line. Like the pilot episode of most television shows, things were a little slow to get started, but towards the end, I was hooked. I don’t know if I can really explain why without spoiling you for the plot twist and the setup of the romance, but suffice it to say that I didn’t see it coming, even after reading the book blurb. It was well done, and I’m really hoping that I’ll get the chance to review the other books in the series when they become available. --Laura, The One Hundred Romances Project
