I don’t usually seek out novels set in this era, but this was a guilty pleasure. I’m sure it has its share of historical inaccuracies, but the jealousy, ambition, and scandal surrounding Henry VIII’s court make the pages go by quickly. The perspective of Mary, Anne Boleyn’s younger sister, is what makes this book unique and interesting.

An anthropologist murders a missionary trying to convert her subjects. Need I say more. Ok, I will, there are Thai Shamans and a long investigation into why said academic shot a fire and brimstone type three times in the head. There are surprises around every turn. Fun. Fun. fun.

I had long debated weather to pick up this book, after all I had seen the movie several times, from what I had heard it was very close to the movie script, so what new would it bring me? Well today I'm so happy I took the time to read the book! True the book is very close to the movie adaptation, but it goes a bit deeper in the ethical, technical and moral dilemmas in genetic technology, and you also get to see the events, motivations and thoughts of more of the characters as the plot progresses. The characters were also diverse, perhaps some were a bit two dimensional, and the children didn't sit quite right with me; I think their reactions, behaviors and actions weren't quite realistic in the situation they were facing. Overall though I enjoyed revisiting the story and would recommend it to others

I really enjoyed this book. I liked reading about how each small thing that she'd found in the book came to be there, and it was interesting (and sad) how through the centuries, the persecution of the Jews was a constant issue. I liked the historical chapters better than the present-day ones, but that story was interesting too.

This is the fifth novel in the Barsetshire series. It has Trollope's favorite heroine, Lily Dale. She is not my favorite, I think mainly because her ultimate decision about marriage seems, well, just unbelievable, even in the context of the nineteenth century, where, God knows, I have passed hundreds of hours reading. But the novel also contains Johnny Eames, another depiction of Trollope in his own youth (low ranking civil service job, in the clutches of money-lenders, barely escaping a dreadful marriage).

Debbie Macomber is a Port Orchard native, so naturally, I had to read her books after moving here. The Cedar Cove series is based on this quaint little town I now call home so it was fun to read and recognize locations and descriptions of life here. There are several characters, all interwoven, and each book is an enjoyable, light-hearted read. I recommend this series if you're looking for an easy romantic series.
Non-fiction is not my usual read, but it's well-researched so I can't give it one star, even though I want to. The tale of Percy Fawcett, an ultra-manly jerk-off who vanished in the Amazon in the nineteen-twenties and took his kid and about a hundred other people who went after him with him to their horrible graves. Nice job, ass! Also, it's about the lost city he didn't find. Spoilers: it's a mystery story that remains a mystery, and I really dislike that sort of thing. The only answers I got were: DON'T abandon your wife to hack your way through deadly bug-infested nothingness, DON'T enslave or genocide the locals, and El Dorado probably existed but was probably biodegradable. I want to call this The Lost City of ZZZs- I fell asleep about a dozen times while reading it.

A gripping sequel to The Dark Divine. The Lost Saint picks up where its predecessor ended and continues the tale of the Divine family and the werewolf curse. Bree Despain has put an original twist on werewolf mythology without loosing the tradition. Grace and Daniel remain compelling characters and their struggles are understandable. I would recommend this to anyone who liked The Dark Divine or enjoys YA paranormal romance.
