not much for the whole "he raped me but its OK because I love him now" theme

I think this one might be even more hilarious than the first one. The school is having a talent show, but there's just one problem-- Clementine doesn't have a talent. I like this one partly because a lot of the adults that were flat characters in the first book (because, let's face it, in a kid's eye, most adults are flat characters) round out a bit more, especially the principal. I really just want to cut and paste a bunch of quotations, or possibly the entire book, but you just read it yourself. I will leave you with this: "But he ignored me, which is called Getting on with the Day when a teacher does it, and Being Inconsiderate when a kid does it." see all my reviews at www.tushuguan.blogspot.com

I have read a few books, both fiction and non-fiction, from this time period - it is such an interesting time in history. A friend of mine was reading this book and recommended it. I'm glad she did, I enjoyed it very much. I only wish the story went on a little bit longer, at least until the death of Thomas More.
Awesome book. It cleverly crept an obsession of vampires in the life of Abraham Lincoln. It was a quick read and kept me interested the whole way. I loved reading the journal entries that Abe wrote and the stories of his vampire hunting.

Enjoyable fable.
A great retell of the genocide in cambodia. Crazy to think this happened just 30 years ago and how the little girl lives her life through these dark 4 or so years. A must read, especially before a trip to cambodia.

Take a deep breath before diving into this book because you are going to need it. The action starts right from the beginning with hardly a pause for a breath before diving right into the next action scene. In my review of Mr. Strout's first Simon Canderous novel, "Dead to Me", I stated that this was an author with promise. In this second outing I have not been disappointed. The characters are well developed and the dialogue flows. I would recommend these books to anyone who is a fan of the urban fantasy, paranormal, action, adventure genre.

I thought of many of my Asian friends I had growing up while reading this book. An interesting look into how children are raised in the Chinese-American culture.

This book is outstanding! I absolutely loved this book. It made me cry: I was full-on sobbing at the end of this. It is one of the most truly transcendent, uplifting, moving, awe-spiring, and inspiring books I've ever read. To say that this is a book about body snatching aliens says absolutely nothing about why I loved it--in the same way that saying Twilight is a vampire romance does it no justice, but even more so. It's a book about what it means to be human and to love, and not just romantically. MANY people ask which is better--Twilight or the Host. And honestly, there is no answer to that. They are completely different in so many ways that there is no possible comparison. The Host will grab you--from beggining to end--and keep you reading far into the night and will keep you thinking LONG after you turn the last page and shut its cover. This book really gets you thinking, and might change the way you view things--even love, pain, grief life, and death. It is a thoroughly haunting book, and Melanie/Wanderer's story is one you will never forget. If you like this, there are so many different types of books that branch off from the Host that i truly cannot recommend any certain book or genre. Also, Meyer has mentioned that a second and third installment will/have been written (the second one is done, the third is not) and she will release information on them if/when they are edited/published (sorry about all of the /'s. i honestly am not sure about the sequels bussiness; Meyer has only mentioned other installments--and has not gone into detail.
This book was good - it kept you guessing and developed the protagonist from someone you couldn't really relate to into a more understandable person you rooted for. I liked the spare writing style and the close POV with the main character.
