the whole book was truely amazing....until the end. i feel the end could have been much more exciting. i love how there were so many different things going on that you could only understand then and nothing else and you couldnt think about anything else. for the three says i was reading this book i just couldnt hink of anything else but what was going on in this book. my favorite part was truely the way the author depicted the crazy elaborate characters. i mean it was amazing.

I really enjoyed learning about Roman customs and what might have happened to the famous Cleopatra's daughter Cleopatra Selene once she was captured and taken with her brothers to Rome as hostages....for years. I have another book of the same subject and will later compare the two.

Gorgeous prose, beautifully-crafted dystopian novel that is COMPLETELY unlike the violent film. James imagines a world in which mankind's inability to reproduce has lead to widespread despair. The protagonist, a middle-aged academic, becomes involved, unwillingly, with a radical group that hopes to reform gov't corruptions that developed as a result of the slowly-emerging crisis. The eerie feeling of sterility and hopelessness permeates the novel, but eventually there is a glimmer of hope...

This book is beautifully written. I would read it again just for her writing style. Although it is not (fully) biblically accurate, I love how Diamant explores the unknown life of Dinah. By giving a voice to a woman we know little about,allows us to seek out what what-ifs in history... The untold stories seem to be more intriguing...
