I enjoyed it and was lost at the end. Um. It's hard to judge this book, what with all the love for it. To be honest, I kind of wish it was read to me. It had that child-book feel where someone read out the growls and squeaks of the goblins and Baggins. The author tend to put his imput which made the feel more like a conversational story, rather than the fiction we are used to. Or at least I am accustumed to. This story was interesting. From the hobbit hole to flying with eagles and yearning for tea throughout the journey's travel.
This book literally changed my life. You won't understand until you read it yourself.

This is one of those mysteries where nothing makes sense. All of the things that take place don't seem to relate to each other. This is probably the way it seems if you are inside the events in real life, so I guess in that respect it is a well written mystery book. From a reader's point of view, I want to know more than the characters do. Yes, I am one of those people that always reads the last page first. The ending was a little confusing. I don't know if I was too tired or it was too complex, but I didn't understand how 1) the police didn't get the bad guys if they had all of the exits surrounded; 2) the bad guys got what they wanted and were searching for and 3) how Dido and Barnabus got to keep what they received. I may have been reading the book too quickly. One thing that bugs me about this book is Dido's name, Dido Hoare. The reasoning behind her first name is explained in t his, the first installment of the series, but it just seems too precious to me. I think the book would have been just as effective with the main character being named Jenny Smith.

One of Pratchett's strengths is that his books are just as fresh and entertaining on the second or third (or fourth or fifth) reading. Every year or so I inevitable end up re-reading Terry Pratchett, and every time I walk away more enamored with him as ever. I've read Going Postal half a dozen times, but I laughed just as hard as I did the first read through.

I really wasn't impressed by this book. It takes a cursory and dramatic look at cutting, which is an unglamorous and complex psychological problem.

The best part about a mystery novel is the fast-paced suspense that it delivers. In this sense, The Hound of the Baskervilles did not disappoint. I liked how the supernatural element in this story added another dimension of mystery. I was hoping that the solution to the case wouldn't involve anything supernatural, because I felt like that would ruin the validity of the story. Thankfully, Holmes emerged as a man of reason who could view the facts of the case objectively. I could relate to Holmes because I am usually very realistic.

Beautiful and interesting too.Based on TV series, it gave a broad picture of our planet with a description of the plants and animals who inhabit the various land and sea zones. Not only was it full of fascinating examples and marvellous photographs, the book clearly explained why the zones were different. A lovely book either to study or to use on the coffee table to dip in and out of at odd moments.

Made my stomach jump...strange to find myself wishing I'd "known" a fictional character. I wish I'd known Owen Meany.
