Again, Ellis gets me. Just when I find myself getting a little bored with the constant babblings of self-centered, over-sexed, drugged-out college kids, I suddenly become a part of the story. I find that my brain starts functioning in Ellis narration and then I find it difficult to stop reading about how Sean fucked Paul and is now in love with Lauren and they all need ecstacy.... Many of these characters are also in Ellis' book, "Glamorama," so it's cool to see where they started out. It's also cool to see Sean Bateman interact with Patrick Bateman (his big bro and the main character in "American Psycho"). I don't know that Ellis' novels are for everyone, but I find them darkly entertaining.

This book took me forever to finish. I started it mid-July and I've been reading it off and on since then. In the beginning, it drove me insane how Elena was. I think it's because she was just a typical.. stereotypical teen girl character. I can't stand girls like that, especially in books. At the end, it got better.. a little more action packed which was nice. I really want to read the next one now.

I loved this book. An interesting combination of child detective stories (encyclopedia brown, nancy drew, hardy boys, etc) with the tragedies and pathos of the real world. Amazing characters, and a great use of fake moustaches.

This is what my new local book group are reading. I wouldn't have heard of it otherwise. So far a good story but style wise not in the same league as Laarson.Some very poor sentences but I don't know whether it is a translation ( a poor one?) as set so far in Norway. Yes another Scandinavian detective story............... I persevered and quite enjoyed it as a quick read. Doesn't have any of the complicated multiple threads of Laarson's books, nor the strong characterisation but one you could take on the plane or to the beach.

Very much enjoyed this read about Ann, a grandmother who is linked to the past through her 8 year old granddaughter Ellie. The secrets and the guilt of Ann's family all come tumbling through in this well written story of disappointment and heartbreak. It keeps the pages turning from the very first one.

This is the best textbook I have ever been assigned to read for a class. I kept it when the class was done. If you want to learn more about the major conflicts of the 20th century, this is a great place to start. (I have the 8th edition)

Again, with Pandora Hearts pushing forward, the strength of the series astounds me. I'm not sure how Jun Mochizuki can keep the story moving in such a way that brings the reader closer to the characters, but it really works. Despite only having two different titles under his belt, Mochizuki really seems to know what he's doing. In volume four, there is a lot of story development. A lot. There's so much going on in the story that it's a little hard to keep up with, but that's alright. We get to see little fragments of some characters that make me question their pasts and their sanity. Meeting one of my favorite characters from Alice in Wonderland makes me wonder how the rest of the familiar Wonderland characters will come about throughout the series. Also, setting is returning for a reason. There's purpose to the recycled scenery and it really makes me think that Mochizuki really thought this out before he started. Everything just seems to fall into place, although more questions keep popping up about the characters and the plot. Really, Pandora Hearts pushes the reader to think of things through the story on a deeper level. What's going to happen to the characters? How do all the facts add up? Now, I have to wait a month for the next volume because I don't read manga online. Let's see how long I can wait before I start freaking out. Give me a few days.
