This book is Zola at his best and worst. He can be a great writer of melodrama, you know nothing good is going to come of Therese and her boyfriend, and when it does happen it is still a surprise. Here present also is Zola the scientist who is giving you the elements of crime drama as though he were serving up truth 101. He never saw himself as an artist, yet years later that is the only reason to read him because he was one. It isn't as good as Germinal and La Bete Humain, but it is compelling reading nonetheless.

I had a slightly hard time getting into this book, but once I got through it, I enjoyed it thoroughly. Definitely not your standard book of poems. It's the source of the title for the Tom Robbins novel "Fierce Invalids Home From Hot Climates".

I believe that this is the best kingdom hearts manga so far simply because of its climax and how it is so similar to the game.

Interesting read. If ever I need a pick-me-up when doing something, I will pick this book up again. It seems a bit odd, but it is really inspirational, and now I want to go out and conquer the world. I liked the non-traditional style of it; it keeps the reader's attention, and helps the reader to see that resistance is there.

I'm told the roast chicken is the only easy thing in her book, but quite worth the try...

One of the most beautiful yet heartbreaking stories I have ever read. I cried throughout most of it.

Heartwarming and a fabulous cast of characters. I'm from the south, so it really hit me with some nostalgia as well.

Ok, here is what I will say about L.J. Smith. I thought her writing seemed cheesy at points and I also hated how she made her vampires too human. They are vampires, for goodness sakes (keeping my review g rated :D). And not just vampires, but other things that go bump in the dark were too human. I don't want to give things away so I wont' go into more details. All that being said, I couldn't stop reading these books! I was totally hooked. Maybe it means I am easily amused. Maybe it means I am not picky. What ever the reason, I liked them alot! Not loved, but deffinitely liked. One last thing. Stephenie Meyer gave an alternate view of vampires and werewolves that was original and I totally bought it and obsorbed it into my very being. L.J. Smith gave a somewhat original view - although she mostly kept to the usual lore - I couldn't buy it. I was mostly just along for the overal story and the characters, which I ended up mostly liking. I am taking a break from the series before I read the book that came out earlier this year. But I will read it!
I enjoyed this book. It wasn't the next one in the series, but it didn't matter. As long as you've read the first book, you will have all the necessary background info. I like how optimistic Odd Thomas is. I also like his wry sense of humor.
