Amazing man, band and story. Such a good book, I couldn't put it down. If you grew up listenting to RHCP, or if you've ever heard "Under the Bridge" there is absolutely no way you can pass this book up.

It's interesting to see in each how well (if at all) the author succeeds in creating a vignette, a slice of life, while adhering to the conventions of the short story. Most are interesting reads but average in impact; about 4 of them are real gems.

An interesting and exciting story. A lot of big words that I don't know, and I'm not ashamed to admit it, mostly dealing with extint flora and fauna found (or not) at the center of the earth.

Angela's Ashes is a sad story told through the eyes of a young boy named Frank, the son of Angela and Malachy McCourt. The author writing the book through the boy's perspective made readers really feel Frank's physical and mental anguish throughout the novel. The fact that Angela did nothing but stay in her comfort zone by smoking cigarettes all day while her alcoholic husband created worse situations within the family all the time was annoying because that was the time she should have been using to keep her family together and feed her starving children. The book ended well though because the boy grew and escaped his brutal childhood alive. He then moved on determined to live a happy, healthy, and successful lifestyle. That really made the book worth reading.

As with My Sister's Keeper, I find myself reflecting on the story of this book on and off throughout the day. The subject matter was disturbing as I am both a Catholic and mother of two young children. Beautifully written and hard to put down...although I felt myself getting emotional on and off as Nathaniel struggled with the whirlwind of events in his young life.
