So simple... so profound. Hmm, makes ya think about your purpose.

This is the first Jodi Picoult book that I ever read, and it got me hooked on her. She's a great author, and this book was amazing. I loved the ending, even though it was really sad.
Just read a review of this in the April issue of ART NEWS. Sounds right up my alley!
I am so glad to know I am not the only person that hated this book. I hated it so much when forced to read it in school I have not read another Hemingway book since.

I loved this book. I was introduced to Amy Carmichael because her life story was part of my bible curriculum when I taught 2nd grade in Christian school. Over the next few years, I read many works by her and about her. She's had a profound influence on my Christian walk. I particularly loved this book, as it traced the journey of her whole life.
DUMB. DUMB. DUMB. SO DUMB IT HURTS. JUST SHUT UP. YOU'RE STUPID. NO MORE PLEASE! YOU DUMB B**** As bad as her career as a Tory MP. Generally at tall dark handsome cliché of a hero. Everyone other woman is a baddie. And she's the sweet disadvantaged woman. Snore
the book is fast moving and well written. It really should get four stars but there was a great deal of violence in it -- that of course is because violence would have been the reality of the situation.

First of all, I liked the concept - Heaven and Hell, demons among men, and what-not. Yet I had quite a few problems getting into this story...Beginning slowly, there were some small grammatical errors that bugged me, but soon the book became a lot more interesting. This middle portion was engaging, switching between character perspectives with brief cliff-hanger chapters and lots of action. I enjoyed it. But then, the end came. It wasn't bad - just not really engrossing. I found that I was reading a couple of paragraphs without realizing it - basically, it was OK. A little anticlimactic, but OK.

A good description of India's extreme politics during Indira Gandhi's time. But much more importantly this book focuses on the everyday challenges the lower and middle classes face. It's about taking charge of one's one life, helplessness, finding the right path in life and losing it.... Terribly sad. Wonderful description of characters and situations. Very realistic.
