It was definitely a children's book. It was hard for me to get through. Overall, the story was cute with a nice ending. Probably won't read anymore in this series.

Published in 1995, this Pulitzer-winning novel makes me wish the story had been kept up to present day. The Grants travels and studies in the Galapagos are incitefully captured by the author, Jonathan Weiner, who brings a new light to evolution in real time for those both familiar or new to the theories presented here.

Great book, I really liked it!
Although I find it difficult to really read anything in-depth onscreen, this ebook was packed with solid info. Maybe I was just especially motivated to soldier through despite continually losing my place on the screen, because this is a topic dear to my heart...
There were a couple parts of this that I had trouble with (i.e., the cannibalism chapter), but overall it was VERY interesting. And the author is hilarious!!

I had high hopes for this book. I was told that if you like the tv series lost, that this was the same idea. Um, not really at all other than there are unexplainable natural forces going on. I suppose the first half of the book is decent. It sets up an intriguing story of characters who are stuck in the ruins and can't leave because of this mysterious "ivy" that is alive and kills people. The whole time I was reading I kept hoping they would somehow make it out alive. I don't mean to give away the ending...but they don't. I was so pissed I threw the book across the room. If anything, it made me aware of how strong the feeling of hope can be, and the fact that people just don't want to give up...even while being eaten alive by ivy:P

Great page turner, just what I wanted to escape into for a fun easy read. I would read yourself before letting teens read it due adult situations.
Many of the essays in this book bored me. I did not care to learn about the history of a chain restaurant's imitation Polynesian food, although I did like reading about the history of apples. The female writers were sparse, although Ruth Reichel had an essay included (also found in her book Garlic and Sapphires). Only a handful of the essays were actually worth reading (do check out the essay titled "Gardens on the Mesa"--it will make you wish you could live off of your garden). The book was sprinkled with recipes here and there, but I was only interested in cooking/baking two of them. I made the polenta with wild mushrooms and mascarpone cheese and found it just okay, but the Chocolate Chewies recipe was very much worthwhile.
A bright and lively classic alphabet book, with a catchy beat! Twenty-six lowercase letters climb the coconut tree, but “Chicka Chicka . . . BOOM! BOOM!" they all fall and the family members (all the uppercase letters) rush to help. Children can relate to the letters’ “boo-boos” and sense of exploration. The rhyming text makes this alphabet adventure one not to miss! Early Literacy Skills: Letter Knowledge Narrative Skills Phonological Awareness Print Awareness Print Motivation There is a Board Book for a younger audience; however, it is not the full story (stops when they all fall out of the tree). Also, Scholastic made a DVD version.
