Why is it that books with mediocre writing are often the ones that I can't put down? I like the message of hope in this book. I can't wait to see what Peter Jackson does with this story.

Ana escapes her mother who hates her in an effort to learn why she is so different from everyone else, and escape the seclusion that she has been kept in. After being kept away for so long, however, she finds herself in far over her head and is helped by Sam. In the city of Heart, some welcome her, and others see her as a direct threat to her existence, but Sam tries to keep her safe throughout. But Ana finds that the fact she took someone else's existence, and what the means, might be a little more frightening than she wanted to know. I absolutely loved this book. I loved Sam's character, and the whole concept of having people reincarnate for hundreds of years until Ana - the first new soul. I enjoyed the action component of this book (dragons and sylphs!) as well as the mystery and romance. There were some really great scenes and overall, I thought it was a good dystopian read. Jodi Meadows definitely has a gift for writing.

I loved this book and I can't wait to discuss it at book club. I started off unsure if I was going to like it or not, as it's far from my preferred genre. As the book progressed I started being emotionally invested in the characters, especially Ender. By the end, I hated the adults and didn't want the story to ever end.
