I didn't want to read this (because I am a huge snob), but I actually kind of enjoyed it. It had a bit of what I understood about Travels with Charlie--the need to escape, the desire to be without commitments.

Sort of a Satan’s Apology, it makes you dig the big guy, but in a good way. Great fun!

Very good book. I'm LOVING all of Steve Berry's novels and can't wait for the next one to come out. Once you read one, you'll want to read them all.

This was a very interesting book, and not at all what I was expecting. It deals a lot with the culture/history of Florida around the turn of the century. I never realized where the term "Cracker" came from, nor that originally it was not a derogatory term.

Again a nice story. I was amazed again by the nice and detailed pictures ilustrating the story.
I read this for a college literature course, and I remember being one of the few people in the class who liked it. I remember my professor even admitted to not liking it very well. I found it delightful, in the same way Robin Hood and King Arthur tales are delightful. You have to have an appreciation for the whimsical, though, and not take anything too seriously. It's probably no coincidence that I liked this novel and I also still read YA fiction at my advanced age. UPDATE: I just watched the A & E movie version, which refreshed my memory of the book a little. They made the ending of the movie a little happier than the book. They also made more of the romantic attraction between Ivanhoe and Rebecca. There was some of that in the book, but the two did a better job of resisting temptation in the book, which made them more likeable characters, although the movie characters may have been more realistic.

This book was a good read- it was hard to follow at first because it is narrated by 3 women. However, after getting used to the writing style you can easily tell which character is narrating the story. It is about the secrets that everyone keeps and the freedom that can be gained by sharing. The ending was the best part of the book.

Best definition of voice growing out of place in modern fiction. Stories of ghosts and land and everything that binds us to that essential moment in life, be it a pregnancy test or walking out of a burning house. Quality and efficiency of language is impressive. Mike and I wrestle over who loves this book more. He wins, greasy little man.
