It's a literary classic but every page of this book was pure torture, hated it.

This one just feels like an Oprah book. Not saying that's a bad thing, just that it fits neatly into that genre. It's like a tough workout -- you need to feel like you're a better person after you've read it, even if you didn't enjoy every minute.

I've just finished this, as pre-reading for Readercon, where Angela Carter is the dead Guest of Honor (I'm sure there a more proper term). The title story is brilliant- gorgeous imagery, and seriously creepy. And despite the many times Bluebeard has been redone, Carter managed a new twist to the ending. The other stories were a bit more mixed- a couple I really enjoyed, a couple I suspect I didn't quite get. I think this might be a good book to read over a longer time span (if it didn't need to go back to the library). Carter's style is rather lurid and over-described, and I think I got a bit of overload reading them all in a couple of days. I suspect they'd be better read at intervals, each one savored on it's on.

Sweeny Todd reminded me a lot of this book...without the murders by shaving.

Awesome analogy to life. I have decided to quit hemming and hawing.
I love road trip books. I like books that explore the world. I like books that throw two people who clearly like each other together and put them in interesting situations. Don’t Stop Now had all of these things, but I didn’t like any of it. The dialogue drove me crazy, and Lil and Josh annoyed me endlessly. The plot was obvious, and it’s something that I have read about hundreds of times. I read this while on vacation. It didn’t hold my attention and disappointed me.
