An attempt to clear the dirt from Marx's name, analyze his true predictions for the future of Capitalism and its eventual demise. Seems a bit self-defeating, but of course I haven't finished it.

This book I really connected with, maybe because the character was close to my own age (okay so are like all the characters in the books I read, but...I don't know...). The Probability of Miracles has a very simple writing style, and the characters will make you laugh so much, which really helps lighten up the book. The Probability of Miracles talks about a very heavy issue, and without the humor, I'm not sure if I could have finished it. Cam is so laid back about her cancer, sometimes when you're reading you can forget about it too. But then you catch a glimpse of it, and it really brings you back to the issue of the book. But the humor keeps the overall mood light, and I think it really helps you understand the message that Wunder is trying to get across. One issue I had with this book, is that while it is written in a very simplistic writing style, Wunder kept using 'said' instead of a more descriptive term. It really got on my nerves as I started the book, since it was repeated SO MUCH. Eventually I got past it, but it stopped me from getting into the book at first. I was very hesitant about continuing if the whole book was going to be like this. Other than that I really enjoyed this book, and it actually made me feel an emotion, which is super rare with books. Usually I'm an insensitive asshole when it comes to books, but this one really got me. I'd definitely recommend it, with a four star review (but it you're very emotional, I'm warning you this might be a tough read for you).

Cassandra is a diviner and she tells her the tale of what happened to her one summer while looking for water for a client. The story is interspersed with flashbacks from her younger life. I’m not sure I really liked the main character. She was a bit boring and at times pathetic. Her 11 year old twin sons were more interesting. They come across as older and wiser than their age. Especially Jonah, who, repeatedly tells Cassandra to be true to herself and not try to conform to what everyone else thinks she should be. Cassandra’s relationships with her family and friends are what really drove the book for me. Cassandra’s struggle as she watches her father deal with the onset of Alzheimer’s was both touching and heartbreaking. While I enjoyed listening to the Diviner’s Tale, I did feel that some parts of the story lagged a little. The detail is a bit longwinded in parts and probably could have been shortened. I was expecting more of a mystery, but I didn’t feel like it was really main focus of the book. The mystery wasn’t too hard to figure out. Anyone really paying attention should be able to finger the culprit pretty early on. I listened to the audio version and the narrator did a pretty good job. Her voices kept me listening. Give it a shot, you might like it.

A psyhological teen novel, that goes deep into the souls of those that are forgotten by their family, society, and above all themselves. Points at the awareness of all the aspects of a teenage life that may go wrong if nobody cares and influence is the only thing you get in return for your love, which can doom you or salvage you, and what if at the end there's no way leading back? Well, read and get to know it yourself. I did begin to read this book last evening and the fact that I'm writing this review now just shows how good this books is!

I read this because I wanted to recommend it to my daughter, but I think I might wait a year or so before I do so. I thought the injustice and feelings of the time were well captured. It is a little heavy for a child. I do think it's worth reading though.

I will openly say that I am afraid to pick up this book. I'm just over halfway done the first and I'm not sure I can go through another without getting angry with the characters. Any of them. All of them. Who knows. I understand why Marta acts the way she does, I can guess why Niclas does as he does, I like Bernie and Clotilde is...a little fluffy blonde girl who I don't know well. Hildemara makes me sad. I'm afraid of the relationships --or the lack thereof-- that form (or don't) between mother and daughter. They make me wonder. They make me think. They make me cry. It's the mark of a great author and a brilliant story, but I still don't know if I can handle it.
Docked one star for being a graphic novel, and I've not actually read one before. Yeah I know it's not her problem, but get over it. I did give it 4 stars for being a pretty fascinating exploration of gender in a nuclear family. The meditation on her family's similarity to the Addams Family is worth the price of admission. (Full disclosure: my senior year high school English teacher ran his own funeral home. He was not a closeted gay man [that I know:] but he did offer a student embalming fluid for a cut lip once...)
Beautifully written book. His detail and in-depth descriptions shines through when building characters and their surroundings. He really gets inside the head of this character which is key for this story that could take many turns. I own if you want to borrow!
