Picked up this book from a 'help yourself shelf' in a hostel, when I was thousands of miles from home...and LOVED it. I then went on to read everything and anything by Douglas Adams that I could get my hands on. A large part of my love for Adams stemmed from the fact that he made everything seem like it was going to be OK, and it was comforting to think that I was only half a world away from home, rather than several galaxies!

This is a story about a zen philosophy toting giant panda named Stillwater. He shares ancient zen parables with the children he befriends to help them cool their jets. You totally don't have to be a kid to read this. On bad days at work (when we actually have this in stock), I like to pick this off the shelf and read it. It makes problems seem smaller, and dwelling on other people seem a waste of time. Inner peace in like, ten minutes, man! ... my favorite selection: A HEAVY LOAD Two traveling monks reached a town where there was a young woman waiting to step out of her sedan chair. The rains had made deep puddles and she couldn't step across without spoiling her silken robes. She stood there, looking very cross and impatient. She was scolding her attendants. They had nowhere to place the packages they held for her, so they couldn't help her across the puddle. The younger monk noticed the woman, said nothing, and walked by. The older monk quickly picked her up and put her on his back, transported her across the water, and put her down on the other side. She didn't thank the older monk, she just shoved him out of the way and departed. As they continued on their way, the younger monk was brooding and preoccupied. After several hours, unable to hold his silence, he spoke out. "That woman back there was very selfish and rude, but you picked her up on your back and carried her! Then she didn't even thank you!" "I set the woman down hours ago," the older monk replied. "Why are YOU still carrying her?"

I thought that this book was extremely hear-warming. It was very sad and it made you remeber how great ful are and how we should give thanks to all that we have. Greg, takes so many sacrifices for the people in Korphe, Pakistan. It reminded me and my peersof how important t is that we give back.

You really need a general foundation of biology to be able to understand this book. I loved this book. I liked how he gave the evolution of the cell and how he told the stories of reseachers. This book has sparked my interest in the connection between cellular respiration and the theory of aging.

I didn't "rate" this very highly, but it was very informative. It breaks down what may seem mysterious about producing a radio show, particularly a show in the vein of This American Life.

This is a wonderful story that introduces the importance of friendship...even among junkyard animals. The story elicits compassion for a grouchy rat and the friendship between the dog and the rat is reminiscent of the Odd Couple. We enjoyed listening to the librarian read this book aloud to us during storytime.
