Another classic. A great love story with a fair dose of intrigue. Much more memorable that Wuthering Heights.

Oh my. To be brutally honest, I had completely forgotten about this series until a new friend here at goodreads mentioned it, which led me to locate this, book #2. Though the story started slowly, the second half more than made up for that. This writer is a wonderful story teller, one who makes you believe in her characters and the world(s) they inhabit. I cannot stop here, of course; now on to find book #3!

Maybe I'm biased because I used to work with Dr. Lehmann but I thought this book was well written and researched! The last part of the story takes place in my hometown of Baltimore so this made it expecially interesting for me.
This book was some of Stephanies best work. I'm looking forward to more Adult stories from her. Not that I didn't like Twilight, but since it's done, I wish she'd start on some new things more along these lines.

This book features a creepy, perhaps untrustworthy narrator. It was incredibly easy to get into and read quickly. I enjoyed her use of language, and the story was intriguing. I look forward to seeing how it was adapted into a screenplay in the movie.

I am filled with sorrow now that I have finished this series. Not only because I will miss the characters, but because I know it will be another long journey until I find another book within it's league—if that's at all possible. I have finally found a book/series that I have enjoyed as much as Twilight!! I only enjoyed the Twilight series a little more because it was the first book I had read in YEARS!! I hadn't known that great stories like these existed or even that I liked to read-so beating the way I felt during and after I read Twilight will be an impossible feat. I literally bawled all day after reading the end of the Twilight series because I was so heartbroken from missing Stephenie Meyer's characters. BUT with that being said... I LOVED this series! I fell in love with all the characters, their world, their stories, their struggles. I will miss these characters immensely and won't surprise myself if I pick up the series to reread within the week because I'll miss them so bad. AMAZING!! Truly amazing! The author is an extremely talented writer!! One day I hope to aspire to be a fraction of what she is!
I read this last summer after a friend gave me her copy. I'd never read any Salinger before so I had no knowledge of his literary style. This book made me want to read more by J.D. Salinger, so I think that's a good sign. I kind of love the Glass family, even in the midst of an existential crisis. However, I also feel that I would have liked this book even more if I had read it in my early twenties or when I was still in undergrad.
A lot of pretty interesting historical facts here about the reality of living in an English city in the 17th and 18th centuries. The movies make it look like it was all glamorous dancing and beautiful people, but Cockayne paints a bigger picture of the excrement, raucousness, indoor gloom and roving pigs that London and other cities would have had back then. I didn't quite finish it because it got monotonous in the last few chapters--there were only so many random tidbits that my brain could take. Still, it was entertaining and made me glad of our modern conveniences (and cleanliness). It would be a great book to peruse for anybody trying to write historical fiction in that period in England.
A rare 5 star, one of my personal favorite novels. It's a straightforward work of fiction and a portrait of a young man, set in Puerto Rico. I found some of the tangents and long side stories the author threw in boring and distracting, and I wasn't really moved by the in depth exploration of Puerto Rico and borincanos in general. But I was completely immersed in the life of Oscar Wao, and would absolutely describe the story as both brief and wonderful. I admit, a lot of my love of this book is personal. I strongly identified with the protagonist, and the author's habit of filling his writing with Spanglish and comic book references pretty much spoke my language. Regardless, I think it's a powerfully written, engrossing story that will leave you with a sense of wonder and peace. Read read read, <3 Oscar Wao!
