One of the most unique books I've encountered. Beyond the fact that it ends mid-sentence (cue Kafka dying of tuberculosis here) there's also the self-destructing plot and a general narrative stucture that is best described as the second law of thermodynamics (you down with entropy?) let loose on paper. Kafka has a real gift for taking the bureacratic madness everyone sees everyday and turning it into surreal and often comic poetry that becomes increasingly claustrophobic at a geometric rate. The prose almost becomes the literary equivalent of white noise towards the end which made me pay less attention to the details and eventually learned to process it like the air conditioner buzzing in the background. Perhaps Kafka was proposing that the only way to deal with social nightmares is to push them into the background instead of analyzing them as that just leads to more of a problem? Maybe this is why he wanted all of his works burned after his death (way to not carry that out, Max Brod)? But maybe there's a chance to analyze and a time to ignore and the trick it to know when to take each path? Um, as this is where my mom would probably mock lighting up a joint if I was saying this out loud to her I should probably stop now :)

I was reading this book when the Va Tech shootings occurred, and I had to put it down for a while because of that. Roth asks one of the central questions that comes to mind whenever one of these tragedies occurs, namely: where do these monsters come from? His answer is none too comforting, but altogether realistic. They all to often come from normal families, with parents who love and provide for them.

Great perspective from a Demon who *totally* places his life on the truth of Who God and that he misses very much the light and warmth of an intimate, right relationship with God! Tosca Lee’s debut, Demon: A Memoir, is very well written. Lee’s style of writing is compelling and intriguing. Her choice of words will have you anxious to get to the final page. She has conglomerated malicious hatred, forgiveness, warfare, unconditional love, and the plan of redemption and packaged it within the pages.

Absolutely amazing! I have no words for this book! It captivated my mind. I could not eat, sleep, drink or do anything. I felt like sticking to this book whatsoever. Just amazing. Please those who haven't read this book, please read it. Though some may find it really stupid or anything (i found a lot of reviews like that) it was amazing to me. I am just in love with Illuminati. Anti-matter, particle physics, Vatican City, etc etc etc... It makes you travel all along Rome. Im just in love with this book. It's a book that really woke me up after the not-waking-up books i read earler.. God, i love this book man!!!

This is a great book and Saroyan's most famous. It's wonderful but I prefer his other work, which is even more wonderful, especially "The Daring Young Man on the Flying Trapeze."

I looked for a book to read in honor of the 200th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth, and this was in the queue. It is subtitled "Executive Strategies for Tough Times." The author claims to study the "management techniques" and "people skills" which Lincoln exemplified. Each chapter explores a broad principle with anecdotes and analysis, and sometimes personal writings of Lincoln; and then ends with a list of sub-principles that sometimes feel more like modern business school axioms. Chapters include insights about being "among the troops", honesty and integrity, encouraging innovation, handling criticism, setting goals, etc. Some sections were quite thought-provoking; there was much to appreciate in this little analysis.

It's been a while since i read this book so my review is going to be very vague, but i definitely remember it as being one of the best novels i have read in a long time. A very interesting first person writing style and a fantastic story. i highly recommend it.

Just finished reading again as it is my habit to re-read each summer. It is always capivating -- never gets old.
Ok....unlike the world I hate this book. Yes it sucks you in and I could not put it down BUT I hate the message. This is not love "kill me and make me a blood sucking monster". And the movie....don't get me started.

Great quote: "Some know that their baby will be among the unfortunate. Nobody knows, however, that their baby will be one of the allegedly lucky few. Great suffering could await any person that is brought into existence. Even the most privileged people could give birth to a child that will suffer unbearably, be raped, assaulted, or be murdered brutally."
