I've had an aversion to Austen ever since high school AP Literature when I had to read Pride and Prejudice. A few months ago, I got a copy of Sense and Sensibility for free and finally got around to reading. A number of friends who adored Austen kept telling me to give her another try, so I did. I liked the book though the female characters were as flaky as I remembered them to be.

one of my favorite books due to the idea of just falling in love headfirst. HARD. DEEP. COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY CRAZY in love. and I can relate to that fear, of getting hurt and everything hitting you in the face afterwards saying "i told you so".

William Miller considered his greatest flaw to be his weakness. Growing up in a family of bodybuilders, and being a vegetarian, greatly plays on this. His life changes in three events - his mother dies, his step-mother moves in, and her daughter Lulu moves in as well. Here, William begins to defy his weakness as he begins to fall in love with Lulu. Unsure of why everyone frowns on them so much, considering they aren't blood-related, William continues to pursue Lulu. She lets him, and even goes a little further, until one summer she comes back from cheer leading camp- and William no longer means a thing to her. What happened that summer plagues William as he gets older, but he tries to slowly move away from the phenomenon that was Lulu. This book has some room for improvement, but it's a very good story. You feel and sympathize for William. You can almost feel the love for Lulu, and her cold rejection, leaping from the page. Jonathan Evison is a very skilled writer, considering the way he twists situations. This book is full of surprises - just when you think you know what will happen next, you're wrong. It's a stunning story, and I would recommend it to anyone who likes a love story with flaws.

This is a compilation of short stories by Stephen King. Often King's books can be 500 pages too long, so this is a great way to sample his writing without the huge commitment. Even though I purchased this book many years ago, the stories still haunt me, and I pick it up tiam and time again to re-read them.

This book got under my skin more than the first one did. I was even having dreams about it! I walked away feeling a bit unsatisfied with how some things were wrapped up, but I'm hoping this will all be cleared up in the third book.

“There are only two adjectives writers care about anymore... ‘brilliant’ and ‘outrageous’ ... and Hunter Thompson has a freehold on both of them.” -Tom Wolfe Thompson’s Kingdom of Fear: Loathsome Secrets of a Star-Crossed Child in the Final Days of the American Century is a hard book to review. It is the fifth book that I have read by the great Hunter S. Thompson, who has been one of my heroes for many years. Suggested to me by my best friend’s cousin while out bar-hopping, I thought I’d give this one a shot because I am a huge fan of Thompson’s work and had never heard much about it. So I figured I’d dive in to see for myself. It is interesting to read this, as it is the most recently-written book that I have read by Hunter. Being so close to present-time, it’s easier for me to relate to a lot of the events that happen in the book. I wasn’t alive for most of the Thompson canon, so it has always been intriguing for me to see what someone who was so obviously exploring the fringes of society thought about it way back when. But since this was written in the last decade, I lived through most of these times, but was unaware of the insanity roaming around in America at that time. Thompson writes about run-ins with the law, drugs, sex, rock & roll, fast cars and motorcycles, football, crooked cops, fast lawyers and dumb judges with an eloquence unmatched by any but attempted by many. When I was in journalism school, it was made abundantly clear to me that it was okay to enjoy Hunter’s ravings, but to not try to emulate them. It’s impossible to write like this for any normal human being. And I think I’m beginning to be okay with that. If you’ve never read any Hunter S. Thompson, I would advise you to start with either The Rum Diary or Hell’s Angels. But if you have checked him out before, or seen the movie Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas you should feel free to tackle this one. Highly recommended. 4/5 Stars. 351 pages. Published in 2003.

A solid four-stars for this Harlequin Blaze. Riley and Rachel's story seems to take their relationship from zero to sixty in the blink of an eye--but since this is part of the conflict they face in reaching the HEA (namely the heroine wondering if their relationship is anything more than a quick fling) it isn't a negative in the books favor. The personality and history of the hero make him easily lovable. There are only a couple of elements that kept this from a five star for me. One was the heroine's density in terms of her relationship with Riley: watching her keep pushing him away nearly made me throw the book at one point. Since this was part of their conflict, though, it could easily be overlooked. However, some spots of the story didn't flow quite as smoothly as I might have liked. There were times when one of the characters would be considering doing something, and in the next line they would be doing something else, with the implication that they had completed that initial task (as in, Riley would be thinking of putting Rachel down on the bed, and in the next line she's stretching over his blankets). Sometimes thinking about doing something replaced the author telling us it was done. It presented some moments of jarring reading. Overall, a very enjoyable read.
