Good book...however I am still debating if I could encourage my girls to read it when they are older, even though they should...

I enjoyed reading about Rin, a girl who is still figuring out who she is and what she can become. I especially loved the ending. I just thought the last few pages were beautiful.

I always enjoy Nora Ephron and this memoir and self-reflection on the aging process was a fun read for me. Friends of mine in the 50+ age group will likely relate to and appreciate this quick read.

To answer your initial questions: No, it's not authorized. Yes, it is technically fan fiction. I enjoyed the Hall of Elder's Crossing. Lippert's style has a very familiar flow to it, and it feels like a Rowling novel. Well, I'd say it feels like a slightly off-kilter Rowling novel, like an early Harry potter book that wasn't quite as refined. If it were a Rowling book, that'd be bad. But because it's not, I decided to brush that aside and just enjoy the book. It's a fun read, and a quick one. It helps that I had a lot of free time to dive into it. I enjoyed a lot of the familiar twists and turns that any Potter fan will be pleased with. I recommend it. Some very minor spoilers (and my opinions of them) below: These books introduce into the Harry Potter world a new term "Technomancy", it's a class that James takes which is the study of the science behind magic. While it's not completely disruptive, it has a bit of the awkward man-behind-the curtain feeling to it. In the Harry Potter world magic is... magical. In this branch, magic becomes science and loses some of it's excitement. It's kind of like your Christmas presents as a kid. You want to know what's in there, but not really, because it spoils the fun. Technomancy (at least in this book) is relatively ignorable. If you trick yourself into thinking that Prof. Jackson is teaching something else you can glaze over the parts. It's not a critical component of the story.

Loved, loved, loved this book. Definitely my favorite of hers thus far (and I only have one left to read). The story was not predictable, and I really enjoyed it.

who knew we would not only still be in the grips of this tale after 6 books, but becoming so personally invested that arguments abound over whether or not a Fictional character is dead. she may be a control-freak, but she's a brilliant writer.
A terrific book with an enlightening view of the Katrina disaster and one family's struggle to survive both the hurricane and the prejudice and abuse that surrounded it's aftermath. Highly recommended.

very fun but not sure how i like all the anti-religous stuff.
