This is a great little book of cartoons, humorously and gently pointing out the excuses and rationalizations we all use to avoid doing what we love. This is a great resource to have on your shelf if you're feeling stuck, stale, not doing the creative and vital things you need to be doing. This is a bite-size companion to Cameron's much larger work, The Artist's Way, which I'm also reading. P.S.: Thanks, Jilo -- this book was a very sweet gift!
This is my between-books "palate cleanser." It's pretty good. I picked it up because the author is Midwestern -- represent.
BOOK: Arranged AUTHOR: Catherine McKenzie LENGTH: 416 PAGES RATING: 2.5 STARS REVIEW: Catherine McKenzie is a new author for me, and this book has grabbed my attention long ago. The idea of a arranged marriage it may sounds extreme but is also appealing, I guess you never know unless you have to face this decision. In this book case, however there's something which wasn't clicking for me. The first person POV is okay, but I can't really know what the other person think and feels. Jack was this blank character. He's nice, alright, he's cool and he seems in love. But I just can't feel, and when there's a turning point and his big secret is revealed, I don't feel him at all. IMO, Catherine McKenzie build a good character in theory,, but didn't delivered in a way I could like him. Anne was okay, I still would like to know why she had this fixation with dark-haired, blue-eyed guys. I liked McKenzie's writing style, she's a good author. This is a good story, but something was missing for me.

It's been a long time but it seems like this third book started to get a little Daniele Steele-y.
I would give this book 3.5 stars if possible but didn't think it quite deserved 4. Stephen King's voice comes through very clearly in some of the passages but much of the time it feels more collaborative and less individual (not that it's a bad thing, just an observation). The story contains some lovely creepy bits and nicely disturbing situations but isn't as, well, scary as Mr. King usually is. (Though, true to form, my favorite character dies, as in almost every other novel of Mr. King's that I've read.) And, to be frank, there is a lot of homo-eroticism, owing, I believe, to Peter Straub. Stephen King has never been afraid of a few genitalian references but it reaches unusual levels in some passages of this book. (I am *not* referring to the relationships of the main character; those I felt were reasonably done and not erotic but emotional.) That aside, it's pretty good. I think it would be a better read for someone younger and/or not as familiar with Mr. King's other work but could also be a fairly good rainy weekend read for anyone. I read it while traveling, which I think made it a bit more interesting and realistic, but of course that is no prerequisite for enjoying it. In the end, there remained several unanswered questions (the impetus for Black House perhaps?) but was pretty well done. I would easily consider re-reading it and/or recommending it to a friend.

I didn't actually love this book, like almost every other book I've ever read. I thought it was interesting and detailed in the beginning, but as the plot unfolded, I began getting really confused. Maybe the only reason I was confused was that I'm only ten; who knows? But for the last 50 or so pages, I basically wasn't really reading; I was just scanning through.

This is by far the best book I read in a long time. It’s not for those requiring entertainment in form of a light-read. It features hefty 1,100 pages of the best plot twists and general confusion you will probably ever have a chance to devour. And devour you will – it’s impossible to put it down once you start reading. Without giving away the plot, if you like war stories, detailed technical explanations of crypto analogy, constant warped and not so warped humor, all wrapped up in an incredible story, then you need to read this book.

Read this when it was originally an on-line story. While this is close to what it was on-line, I think the changes that were made didn't help the story, and in fact hurt it some. It's good still, and I recommend it, but I know it could have been better.
