I enjoy the blend of mystery, history, and romance in this series. I liked the plot in this book.

I read this to get my spirits up about my own writing, which is in something of a slump right now. It worked. To be fair, it's not all bad. But in these 109 (!) pieces, there are only a few that didn't make me laugh out loud, and not in a good way. Rarely have I read poetry so inane or sophomoric, yet so serious in tone and subject matter and all the worse for it. I wonder if Jewel has any idea how terrible these are? Now--the question of what to do with this book next. Inflict it on a used book store? Leave it in a used book store's Free Box? Find someone I loathe enough to make a present out of it for them? Garbage can (something I almost never do)? Decisions, decisions.

After reading Auster’s Book of Illusions back in February of this year, I boldly proclaimed that “I’ve got to read everything Paul Auster’s ever written.” Holding true to this statement I continued my journey with his latest offering, 2010’s Sunset Park. It did not disappoint. Auster, like another personal favorite Don DeLillo, has the ability to perfectly capture the smallest everyday moments and describe them in such an enthralling way. Twenty pages can fly by in the blink of an eye before one realizes that the information that’s being presented, while thoroughly engrossing and undeniably interesting, probably means little in terms of the outcome of the novel. Unlike the DeLillo of today, who seems content to scoff at the idea of an actual plot, Auster uses these moments as building blocks, each one carefully stacked upon the previous, to erect a larger overall plot. Richard Dawkins is often cited as being arrogant and abrasive, however I believe it is his the way he uses wit and humor to attack common beliefs that rub people the wrong way. But this is one of the best parts of his writing. With little fear Dawkins attacks Religion as a whole. Not targeting one religion but the idea at the very core of them all. Nearly every argument you've ever heard brought up in favor of a deity and religion is addressed by Dawkins. From Pascal's wager to the origin of morality. Using science as a tool of understanding our origins and world around Dawkins believes mankind can only go farther "I am thrilled to be alive when humanity is pushing against the limits of understanding. Even better, we may eventually discover there are no limits." Dawkins writing is reminiscent of the writings of enlightenment era thinkers such as Voltaire. Attacking beliefs long held to be true. It will make you question faith or secure you in your disbelief.

It's an easy read, with simple philosophies, yet it really challenges your life. Many people in the airports I passed through commented on it because of the title, and I recommended it to all who said something. A great book I plan on re-reading.
Loved this book--it was fun, hip and made me anxious to get my hands on the sequel!

I love this book. I still have my mother's copy, published in the 1940s, and will always treasure it. I re-read it regularly.
Okay read, not Picoult's best, but not her worst either. Typical Jodi Picoult format: controversial issue, told from various perspective, ends up in a courtroom.
The Sookie story wasn't all that good, and the Tanya Huff story wasn't about Vicky...Could have been better.
