Isn't this the one where one of the cute minor characters gets married off and acts like a prat about it when really blah blah blah but he's totally out of character and annoying and I hate when this happens in a SHORT STORY.

This is the story of an American family, after 9/11, who, in partnership with the Mennonite church, decide to go to Egypt for 3 years. Although they were going with a missions orginization, they were not interested in sharing Christianity from what they say in the book. It was more of a cultural exchange. The author does a good job of describing their life there and some of the culture shock they endured. The husband is strangely absent from most of the story. Interesting to get this take on a different culture. She includes many interesting vignettes of life in Egypt, but her primary concern there and probably in writing the book too, was to show that Muslims and Christians have more in common than they think, and that we all have similiar blind spots about each other.
