I loved this book. If you like books about war this is such a great one to read. You really feel immersed in the war as if you are there on the battlefield observing first hand what's going on.

After reading the first 2 Void novels and waiting for the 3rd, I stumbled on this novel while looking for more Hamilton. I didn't realize until now that it was the 2nd in a trilogy about the central character, Greg Mandel, a gifted but scarred telepathic detective whose abilities had been discovered, enhanced, used and abused by the military. This book is a very satisfying 'who-done-it', with lots of plot twists and MacGuffins aplenty. I'm excited to learn that I still get to experience new Mandel stories with Mindstar Rising and The Nano Flower, the first and third books in this series.

Great presentation and story telling. But this is a depressing subject.

I don't think I like fiction novels. If I'm gonna spend that much time reading something, I'd better learn something. The only reason I finished this book was that I knew the witch was going to die! hahaha!
Stargirl is about a girl, Susan “stargirl” Caraway, who has been homeschooled for most of her life. She begins going to a public school and no one really knows what to think about her. She is very eccentric; plays a ukulele at lunch, dresses in kimonos, pioneer, and flapper clothing, and dances in the rain. She doesn’t seem to care what others think about her and this confuses alot of the students. The book is interesting because it is all about accepting oneself and denying what is deemed “popular” as long as you are doing things that make you feel happy with yourself.

Amy is tired of always having the 'burden' of taking care of her developmentally disabled sister. Fortunately for her, her Aunt Clare has recently moved back to town to pack up the house that belonged to Amy's great-grandparents. Amy takes refuge there and finds in the attic an amazing dollhouse that is the exact replica of the house that contains it. Then, the dolls start moving by themselves, re-creating the scene of the great-grandparents' murder. What is the dollhouse trying to tell them? This was easily one of my favorite books in my pre-teen years. My copy is incredibly worn from repeated readings. Upon re-reading as an adult, I find it holds up well. Amy's conflict with her sister is very genuine and heartfelt. The mystery of the dollhouse is still suspenseful and reveals a satisfying secret. Aunt Clare is a realistic adult and quite three-dimensional. Recommended for any pre-teen girl.

It was a really good book, and I'm glad I pushed through it. But push I did. It's not an easy read. Opened my eyes and explained some things I saw when I was in India last year.

Worthwhile, but falling short of a four-star rating due to my own negligence. This is a more contemplative book than Pride & Prejudice, which I enjoyed very much during the summer months only two years ago. Persuasion is more autumn-wintery, and made all the more compelling after seeing the movie Becoming Jane. Whether the movie is true, it puts the book on another, even more melancholy level because the story really happened; minus the happy ending. I'd like to go back and re-read it someday so I can appreciate it more. I wonder if they're planning on turning Persuasion into a movie now that P&P did so well, Becoming Jane is raking in decent figures, and The Jane Austen Book Club is eagerly awaited for this fall. Any ideas for casting "Anne Elliot" and "Captain Wentworth"?

Great book. Sad, but eye opening. Makes you think twice about your own life and relationships.
