A clear end is in sight! While I didn't like Dylan at first I've found he's grown on me a bit. Fang's "betrayal" still hits hard though. I like all the new characters and the enemy finally has a face and a name, well almost.

I read this book before I went to live in Ireland. I still remember some of the stories very well. Although it is fictional it gives you a good sense of the history of Ireland.

Recently divorced, Anna Fox needs a change in her life. Once her dear Aunt Phyllis suggests she visit Egypt, Anna can't get that location out of her mind. In the mid nineteenth century her great grandmother Louisa visited Egypt and created a wealth of painting of the sites she visited. She also left a travel diary, which Phyllis bestowed to her. Hidden in the depths of both women's stories are those of the ancient priests Anhotep and Hatsek. Both died a violent death at the hands of the other, yet their souls have remained bound to the earth until they have settled that which they left unfinished. At first I thought that this was a 'time travel' story, rather it is a story that is told in three different time periods. First, the priests who lived over 3000 years ago, Louisa who travelled to Egypt about 150 years ago and finally Anna in an unspecified modern year. I had no trouble knowing when I was at any time. Ms. Erskine used a different 'voice' for each time period. I loved the comparison of the locations during the varied time periods. It must have been wonderful to visit the sites long before they became overwhelmed by tourists. The descriptions were so vivid that I was able to imagine myself within the story as a passenger on the ship. Makes me long to add Egypt to my travel list. The only thing I didn't like about the novel, was the resolution of the 'scent bottle'. I understand that it couldn't be broken or lost, but I was expecting for a final answer. All in all, a most enjoyable read. I am next looking forward to reading Lady of Hay, an earlier book by Barbara Erskine.

NOW...I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone, but I actually liked it. I'm a sucker for love stories, it's really corny, it's a really heavy book and it could have done ok without a lot of the beginning chapters. I saw an interview of Mrs. Meyer saying that this was a novel that she was really proud of...but after reading it i'm not sure if we should expect much of her.
I think I might be the last person on earth to read this book. I loved it, couldn't put it down. And I am philosophically opposed to the circus. There were a few scenes I could have done without (gratuitous sex stuff, mostly) but it was still a great read.

A collection of stories by philosopher with an interest in mathematics. If you know about the chaos theory, you know what a "strange attractor" is.

i just reread this for the first time since sophomore year of high school. now i'm teaching it. there was so much i didn't understand on my first read and so much i didn't remember about the book, it was almost new to me and pure delight. to poorly paraphrase tea cake: you've got something in you that makes a man forget to grow old and forget to die. that's some good written love. and in the words of one of my students, "i want to get me a tree like that!"
