This second installment of the American Vampire series is pretty juicy, the pages gushing blood and all sorts of other categories of nastiness. Skinner Sweet is truly a vile invention, a convincing monster, a chilling vampire. Edward Cullen – you sir are a douche bag in a tree. Deal with it. I love the historical feel of this series. This time we get an up-close look at 1930s Las Vegas -- the beginnings of its rise (or descent) to become Sin City. We also get a peek at the building of the Hoover Dam. And then there's Pearl Jones (you may remember this twenty-something Hollywood starlet-wannabe from Book 1). She is all kinds of awesome with something worse than death on her heels. And for fear of getting all spoilery, that's all I'll say about that. I missed Stephen King's contributions this time around; I can only hope he will resume his collaboration with Snyder sooner rather than later. Please please. For now, this is a kick-ass series that shows A LOT of potential and I'm hungry for more!

This one is second in the Stephanie Plum In-Between-The-Numbers Series. I don’t really get the In-Between-The-Number series, but it seems that they are relatively short stories just to whet the fan’s appetite. I audio this one and it was only 3 CDs. In this one Stephanie plays part detective and part relationship expert along with the mysterious and handsome Diesel in order to solve the case. Some of the old gang make appearances, like Lula and Stephanie’s crazy family, but Morelli and Ranger were seriously lacking. Overall, I thought the story was okay. There were some pretty funny parts, but the story lacked a little something for me. I give this one 2.5 stars.
This about just a tragedy and trying to get yourself back in the path of living life. Amy's family was devastated when his Father died of a car accident. They're moving to Connecticut and try to start out fresh. But before Amy actually gets to Connecticut he has to drive with Roger--the son of her Mother's friend--and also their childhood friend. She also has a twin brother named Charlie that was sent to rehab. Amy is so broken at this point she can barely respond to Roger's sentences. But as they are travelling, she is also faced with different situations like the Highway to Hell. Well not literally, but that is just my tid bit of the book. She is also distracted with Roger's charm. How can she ever get on with her life now, that's what is constantly on her mind. okay, that's just my little summary. for my review, here.. I would recommend this book to anyone who is willing to feel the pain of losing someone you dearly love because as i was reading it, Amy's thoughts were just so sad and it makes you eveN more sad because she is like a zombie. She is alone and eats pizza everyday. But as I continue with the next chapters of the book, i just can't wait to see what happens so I was skipping, and skipping until i got to the last part. Yes, that's the problem i had witH this book, its too detailed. Its a good thing for an author to detail feelings, but it was so elaborated for me. The story itself is amazing. i loved it and i would still give it 4/5 stars!

This was a very original and moving retelling of a classic fairy tale, but one definitely not meant for children. Imagine that the fairy godmother did not get Cinderella to the ball and she therefore did not live happily ever after. Imagine that, as punishment, the fairy is turned into a mortal and has to spend centuries growing old, hiding her wings (literally), and hoping for a second chance that will allow her to go home to family and friends. If you can imagine all that, you've only scratched the surface of this book, but I don't want to give more away, so pick it up for yourself...and enjoy.

Lord of the Rings is my all time favorite series. The writing is very sophisticated and elegant yet simple enough to understand. Lord of the Rings is a timeless tale. Unlike many of today's modern novels, there are no shocking plot twists, nor are the lines between good and evil blurred or crossed. It is a classic story of good vs. evil with good prevailing and has the perfect storybook ending. Everyone needs to read this series.

This one had me laughing out loud. The author tries to encourage parents to allow their child freedoms and gives you facts to help alleviate those anxieties parents have about child abductions etc. She was really funny and has some good research to back up her opinions. What I loved about this book was the fact that she tells parents to just chill, don't beat yourself up about every little thing. Chances are you are trying to be the best parent out there. Don't beat yourself if your child is not on the honor roll. I also like her chapter on child abduction facts and how very seldom they actually happen, but how even one has paralyzed us as parents so that our kids can't ever play outside unsupervised. She also talks about how the media has played into creating fear and paranoia with regards to children. All in all a good book. While I didn't necessarily agree with every little thing, it did help put things in perspective and it was really enjoyable to read.

This was my third and final read of the summer, and just like the others I did not enjoy it. During the majority of the book, I felt as if there was no real activity that any of the characters were pursuing. To me it seemed as if the whole book was entirerly about Winstons thoughts. I felt as if there was no real solution to the story either. In this book, any evil thought against the party could be found out easily. Ones own personal thoughts should be a private matter and the fact that absolutly nothing is private any more and that almost every action is a crime against the party and Big Brother, is basically a doom and gloom situation with no way out. Basically, at some point or another every citizen will be considered a thought crimminal and will be killed, and no one will be left living unless they are a party offical. On the other hand I must applaud the author for writing outside of the box. Most other books that I have read on utopias, (Brave New World) create a perfect world with all of its citizens enjoying a perfect and carefree world. This utopia however was based upon fear and punishment, which is a different take. Most think of a utopia as a perfect world, but in this novel Orwell shows us that this may not always be the case.
Very enjoyable read. The author handles two voices amazingly well, even as they were being influenced by each other, I never felt like their points of view were being blended. It is a YA novel, but I found it compelling enough for an adult read. I love that the author was a high school literature teacher. I thought it was clever that she altered modern profanity slightly so that it wasn't obnoxious when characters were expressing emotions of frustration. Well played.
