Women in Love is the story of the Brangwen sisters who are very different in their approaches to life and relationships. The novel centers on Ursula's relationship with Birkin and Gudrun's relationship with Gerald Crich, son of the owner of the town's coal mine. This is my first foray into Lawrence's work, and it will not be my last! In spite of the angst and over-analytical tendencies, it is the most lush, sumptuous writing I've ever had the pleasure to read. I loved it!
I like the Geronimo Stilton books because their words are in color and look like the actual thing.
flawed, but super-geeky fun.
This is the lesser known prequel of he DaVinci Code. And it's basically the same thing. I read all four Dan Brown books and they are each worse than the one before (regardless of what order you read them in), because they are all formulaicly the same. The only reason to read this is if you're a huge fan of Brown, a big Catholic Church fiction buff, or you have no other option. On the plus side, it's very elementary level reading, and can been completed in a couple of days.
I actually love to cook, but I still love this book. All I have to do is substitute cleaning for cooking in order to totally relate to and appreciate the saucy, rebellious attitude. And the nice thing about recipes like this is that they're quick/easy for anyone, which is useful for those evenings when energy flags. People ate a lot more sherry and olives and artichokes then. And chutney, remarkably. Apparently it went away and then came back. I think the children's birthday party chapter would work perfectly well today. And the illustrations throughout are just adorable.

I loved this book. I got it as a gift and it sat on my shelf for years until I was desperate for something to read. It was fantastic, especially if you're looking for perspective, encouragement, a poke in the behind to get moving. P.S. Not just for women either... It had some great thoughts everyone would benefit from.

A very interesting read, as the history of wives is closely tied to the history of women's rights. A very thoughtful bridal shower gift.

Very tough to read. But worth it. The holocaust from a child's perspective is just that much more heartbreaking.

good writing. but the further she -- and we -- got from the original characters, the less i cared about them, and by the end had to refer back to remind myself who they were. what happened to them added little to the narrative. the chapter that was word-drawings: tip of the hat to lawrence sterne's tristram shandy? or just a gimmick? i think we deserve better from the pulitzer committee.
