Lots of layers to this book. Fascinating to know that the author had Hamlet in mind when he wrote this.

Click here for more Jeaniene Frost Reviews Summary: Cat shouldn’t exist; she is a rare half breed. Half Vampire and Half Human, and all freak of nature. Her entire life she knew there was something different about herself, stronger, faster, glowing eyes, pale skin, but she didn’t know why until she was 16. That is when her mother told her she was raped by a vampire and 5 months later Cat was born. Since Cat found out she was half vampire she has been slaying any vampire she could get her hands on. She has always come out the victor, until Bones. Bones knows Cat is killing vampires but what he wants to know is who she is working for. He allows Cat to lure him out of the club and gets one up on her. When he finds out her secret that she is half vampire he realizes he can use her to his advantage, as he is tracking a vampire that is stealing young girls and selling them and he need bait that can handle themselves in a fight and he can’t use a vampire. As Bones and cat get closer to the culprit things get more and more intense and its likely they won’t be walking away from this job. Review: So yes, I succumbed to peer pressure and jumped on the Night Huntress band wagon and man am I glad I did! People were not exaggerating about how good it is. I know I’m only on the first book but it takes off running! It is go go go from the beginning and doesn’t let up. The characters are intense and dark and you will fall in love instantly. Bones will have you sigh with pleasure within minutes, a little scary and a whole lot of man with a delicious accent to boot. This series is technically not a romance and under the Urban Fantasy category but worry not my romantic friends there is a little something something, to keep you going. =) Pick up this series you will not be disappointed you will fly right through this book and onto the next. That’s where I’m heading now, back to the books!

Re-read it again for my Jane Austen survey course but loved it just as much then as the first time I read it.

The Arrival by Shaun Tan is a visually stunning and sophisticated graphic novel that tells it's story without a single word. While it may be classified as a graphic novel for young adults, but it is about as different form a Superman comic as you can get. In fact, it is a novel adults may enjoy as much, or more than teens. The basic plot is clearly told in masterful illustrations that would suit a frame on the wall as well as they suit the pages of this book. Besides being detailed and stunning, these illustrations carry the plot and message of the book. Just as the text would in a novel, the pictures flawlessly set the tone and establish pacing and characterization. They reveal how our main character is a man who leaves his much loved wife and daughter to take a journey to a new country/land. As we follow his story, the illustrations allow us to feel his reluctance and sorrow, leaving his family behind, to feel the length of his journey, and his wonder and confusion upon his arrival. While the city our character winds up in is a visually alien and fantastic place, it's absurdities are not about genre fiction, but about creating in the reader (viewer?) the experience of a place that is totally foreign and inscrutable. The lack of text in the novel helps to convey this feeling and adds a universality to the novel, which any new arrival from any corner of the world can 'read'. Throughout the text, the illustrations also convey to the reader that while we follow the story of one man, the tale that unfolds is the story of many people in this new land. The details of the illustration show careful research on the part of the illustrator, and the end result is a fantastic allegorical snapshot of the immigrant experience.

the kennedy cabinet, with all it's drama and international intrigue, redefining American diplomacy at home and abroad, with great analysis on Vietnam.

As good as, if not better than, her other books. As usual, there is a strong, Black female protagonist- this one is a vampire with amnesia. And as usual, Butler's characters go through relationships, no matter how "alien," that keep an eye to our own in terms of racism, sexism, ignorance, and friendship. An easy read, but a complex, interesting, and thoughtful series of situations and contexts. I highly recommend this book as well as her others.

This one reminded me a little of City of Ember and dealt with similar issues. It was very fast paced and a great read. It explored some very interesting topics and left me thinking which is always good. Hopefully there will be more. It is not completely squeaky clean I definitely thought I wouldn't let a 12 or 13 year old read it even though it is considered "young adult". I say that just because of some of the mature themes and that the main character is almost raped but it doesn't ever get graphic or gratuitous.

Inspirational and moving tale of redemption in classic Christmas fashion. Also enjoyed seeing Glenn act it out last Christmas--with a totally awesome singer!
