I have a thing for tales on the sea, and for Adventures for Young Men. This one obviously captures the best of both, so is a fun book (although there are a couple of surprisingly brutal deaths). It has pirates and treasure and plucky Jim Hawkins. I even wrote a review some time ago which exactly mimicked the style of writing - unfortunately lost, and with it, my pirate voice.

This book was just as good as the first one. Lots of suspense and wanting to punch Kelsey for doing this and that. Kishan has a bigger role in this one than the first one. Ren has a bit of a smaller part :( , but the book was excellent and I really can't wait for the next one. I just have to see what happens!!

There are some easy recipes in this book for babies and toddlers. Good variety of food choices so baby can try a bunch of different things. Recipes include a label that tells you if it is glute-free, vegan, etc. in case you have a food sensitive child or are raising them meat-free. After having this books for a few months I found that I only use a couple of the recipes. Like many other cookbook authors, the recipes are great, but affording all of the ingredients needed can be too much for my weekly budget.

The author certainly took you into a world bleak, cold, with unwanted survival. I finished it to find out how it would end. It's a dark book and left me feeling dark and hopeless. Then again, I'm very affected by my readings. It added nothing -- more of a revisit of nightmares long ago best left in the dark.

This is a light read, predictable, and surprisingly enjoyable nonetheless. A young girl from Barbados is orphaned, moves to New England to be with family, and tries to adjust to the Puritan way of life. Reading of the work required to survive the harshness of the land, I am glad that I have the modern conveniences that I do. I think my nieces would enjoy this one.

Finally, I'm done! While I really enjoyed the very talented story-telling talent of Mr Herriot, I realise now that I should've just bought his books one at a time instead of trying to tackle them all in one huge omnibus edition. Great read, but glad to be moving onto something else now!

Violent Exposure, by Katherine Howell, b-plus, Narrated by Caroline Lee, Produced by Bolinda Publishing, downloaded from Audible.com. In this book we continue with the paramedics and the police. Two paramedics have a troublesome trainee in tow who has been there for three months but seems not to be picking up anything about the job. A paramedic and the trainee in question arrive at a scene where there is a possibility of domestic violence. But things appear to be fine and no one wants to press charges, so they leave. The next day that same trainee, now with another paramedic, are called back to the same house as the wife, Suzanne Crawford’s body has been found on the floor. The trainee admits that he met her that day and went to bed with her, and he fears that she was killed because of him. They immediately begin looking for the husband who has disappeared. A boy who worked in their nursery has also disappeared. The police have to solve the case before more people are killed. This book got graded down by me because the author made it clear through the decisions made especially by the paramedics, that the ends justify the means, especially if it appears that no one will be hurt. While I admit that it created a great story, because in theory I agreed that the villains got what was coming to them, I think there would have been a greater challenge if Howell had tried to find a way to solve the problems without that easier outcome. Maybe the consequences of this book will follow the characters of this book into the next one. I generally like these books a lot. Caroline Lee is a good reader. My problem with her remains that she reads too slowly, but she reads with very good dramatic inflection.
