This series has been a favorite of mine since my early teens, when I found it in a garage-sale stack of paperbacks. I was reading the first couple chapters while Mom was rooting around in the glassware. -------------------------------------------------------------- THE HILLS ROLLED up to the moon on slopes of wind-bent grass, crested, swept down into tangled brier shadows. Then up again and down, over and over until only aching muscles distinguished between rise and descent, climb and fall. A night bird flitted overhead. Jame paused to watch it, thinking enviously of wings. For a moment it showed clearly against the moon-silvered clouds, and then the wall of mountains to the west swallowed it. How near the Ebonbane seemed now that night had fallen. The range loomed over her, an immense presence filling half the sky, blotting out the stars. Two weeks of walking had at last brought her out of the Haunted Lands into these foothills, but that in itself was no help. Clean earth or not, this was still a wilderness. What she needed now was civilization —even a goatherd's hut—but something, and soon. Thin, high voices called to each other behind her. Jame caught her breath, listening, counting. Seven. The haunts had found her trail again. She tensed to run, then forced her weary muscles to relax. Flight would only weaken her. -------------------------------------------------------------- At home, I discovered the rich and strange world in which Jame, a young amnesiac with claws where her fingernails should be, lives. Her current base of operations in this book is an inn in the holy city of Tai-Tastigon, filled with bizarre architecture and even more bizarre beings. The plot is complex and the characters are diverse and well-rounded. My standards for great fantasy haven't been the same since.

** spoiler alert ** I'm not sure what I thought of this book. I don't read in the horror genre because I'm too easily scared but I picked this up on a recomendation and that recomendation may be the only thing that would inspire me to pick up the next book of the series. I was interested enough in the story to keep reading but usually I like the characters and that is why I continue on. I don't know what to think of the characters. Maybe I'm confused about what's what and that will become clear in more reading but for my first Stephen King, did not do a lot for me. Randall is on the quest for the Dark Tower. He is following the man in black (the devil, who he'd met as a young man, masquerading as Marten and some bald man in the gunslinger town) and encounters various people in the desert. Much of what he encounters he believes was left there as a trap by the man in black. The man in black indicated that he was able to break R's dad but not his mom. Don't know what the point of this was. He meets a boy Jake (dies in New York and wound up in this alternate world) somewhere across the desert and Jake joins for part of the journey. Randall toward the end needs to choose between saving Jake or reaching the man in black. R chooses the man in black and Jake dies. R feels some kind of way about this b/c he loved Jake. At the end, R had an in depth conversation with the man in black and fell asleep for 10 years. He woke up to find what appeared to be the remains of the man in black. R took the jawbone for protection of sorts.

** spoiler alert ** OMG!!! Best book ever!!! I think it is better than twilight! OKay, its about these two teenagers, Ivy and Tristen, who fall in love with each other passionately. One day Tristen was driving to fast with Ivy telling him to slow down but he didnt. A deer appeared on the street. He pushed down on his brakes but there was none. Just a waterfull of glass. So when Tristen wakes up, hes at the hospital, everyone is ignoring him. He gets out of the bed and is looking for Ivy. He cant find her. He tried tapping on one of the docters backs to ask for directions but his hand falls throught the docter. He now is convinced that he is dead. No one can see him. No one can hear him when he yells. He needs to find Ivy. OKay thats what the first book is about cuz this is a 3 book combo series. The power of love is telling how Ivy has a new stepbrother that wants to be closer to her. He kisses her in the mouth and she falls for him (which i believe is bazaar) but it turns out he just wanted her to fall into a trap. Oh i forgot to mention that only the people whom believe in angles can see one. Ivy was a believer but when Tristen died, she stopped believing and couldnt see or hear him. But Ivy's little 8 year old brother, Philip, believes in angles and talk to Triste alot. Phillip tries to convince Ivy that Tristen is still hear but she doesnt want to hear him. Then one night Ivy had a nightmare about the accident she and Tristen were in so her stepbrother, Gregory, goes to the kitchen to make her something. Tristen follows and sees him mix drugs into her iced tea. She drinks it and falls deep into sleep. He carries her to the train station that was down the hill (because there house is on a hill) Tristen wakes up Phillip and they go rushing down the steep hill, trying to warn Ivy but she doesnt hear anything. Suddenly a train comes and Ivy wakes up and walks towards it........(stops there) OKay, im in this book, soulmates. Now since i am, i cant really explain that much to you but for one thing, she didnt commite sucide. She jumped out of the way and forgets where she is. She is starting to think that Gregory is really bad and wishes her angels where there to help her. Then she hears Triistens voice. She was soo thrilled!!! okay so yeah im on that part. This book is awsome. Anyone who loved twilight will fall in love with this book.
