It was one of the best Harry Potter books, because it had the MOST ACTION in all of the books. Not only did Voldemort come back(spoiler alert), but there was the Triwizard Tournament, and all the DRAGONS, which i loved.

For my second attempt at a Kurt Vonnegut novel, I went with Cat's Cradle on my friend Brian's recommendation. While I still didn't completely love it, I would say its still an improvement over Slaughterhouse-Five (even if it was published earlier). From my knowledge Cat's Cradle seems to be typical Vonnegut fare, with symbolic, flowery language laced with clever puns. The plot pretty much runs the gamut. It begins with a writer who decides to research one of the inventors of the A-Bomb, and then ends up meeting a variety of zany characters, including the inventor's children, in the process. The story quickly unravels into a journey to a foreign island with apocalyptic results. With themes touching extensively on science, technology and religion, Vonnegut's analogies and imagery is varied and often times quite beautiful. There are a lot of characters, which isn't surprising at all, and they are all fun, weird and charming in their own way. I guess my main issue with the book is how difficult it is to keep track of all them. Also, I will admit, sometimes Vonnegut's way with words gets a little on my nerves. But, while my high expectations for Cat's Cradle weren't quite met, it was still a very enjoyable read.
A mostly enjoyable and interesting read. Despite the anachronism with the piano (at the recital and the gift from Caire) I felt the story was believably set in the early part of the 18'th century. Some aspects of the hero's psychological state stretched my suspension of disbelief, especially the relationship with his mother, but not enough to seriously detract from my enjoyment of the story. The emotional growth of the H/H and their relationship was beautifully done. My only negative reaction was to the climax, with the fire and all the emotional drama there - a bit too far over the top for me.
One of the best books I've ever read.

Interesting story, well written. Leaves you feeling for the troubles of the characters.

This is a good book to introduce children to the dentist. It combines the storyline of losing your teeth as your adult teeth come in with the routine of going to the dentist for a checkup. It even covers getting a tooth filled due to a cavity. Our girls love the Berenstain Bears stories, so this is another one for them to enjoy (especially right before their dentist appointments!)

This is a fascinating book. The authors argue (and demonstrate) that you can figure out a great deal of what someone is thinking by noticing very subtle changes in their expressions. In particular, they focus on eye movement-- you would have to look at someone very carefully to see this, but that is what "paying attention" is all about. Another premise of the book is that you can radically change another person's responses by changing your own behavior. That may sound obvious, but how often do we actually do that? I would love to go to a Neuro Linguisitc Programming Seminar sometime to see this stuff in action.
