This was my first complete audiobook and I have to say I really enjoyed it. The characters were great and I loved hearing the different voices. I liked the robot, he reminded me of Eeyore and also enjoyed Arthur's character. It was very enjoyable overall.

Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser are great heroes, and Issek of the jug ranks right up there with Made of Meat as one of the best laugh out loud stories I've ever read.

I'm sure everyone who reads this book will experience it differently, depending on the reason for reading it. I found parts of it incredibly helpful in dealing with some very painful personal stuff. My one complaint is that the last 1/3 or so felt very repetitive--while I sped through the beginning, I felt bored by the end. Overall though I would highly recommend it as something of an introduction to how Buddhist principles can help us through challenges.

Brilliant book, really would like to give it 4.5 stars. The parts of the book concerning the war were interesting and well written. It's a book which makes you think that Stephenson has done a great deal of research or knows what he's writing about.

For what it is, it's pretty brilliantly written. The humor is sharp and concise and actually, this is basically how a gaijin often feels that first two weeks they're here, especially for those of us who actually stayed and thought, WTF did I get myself into? Dave Barry makes certain things that you don't notice (or at least, consciously) hilarious, especially the aspects of it that are supposedly reverent or traditional. The book is dependent on certain aspects to make it funny, some of which, unfortunately, doesn't apply to many. For example, I didn't really find the kanji issues quite so funny as others might because I was born reading kanji and it's never been an issue that it is for non-natives. So words that are natural to me will seem like googlykook to others. So for me, the jokes about the kanji just didn't seem all that funny, though I got the point of the joke. -_-;; The part with the geisha did send me into peals of laughter, though, because while the art of the geisha is very beautiful, very traditional, very solemn... yeah. They do look like they have an inch of plaster stuck to their faces. It's what it feels like, anyways. ;) Since I've eaten stranger foods than the foods in Japan, the food sections made me laugh, because while they're very strange to so-called typical Americans, they're nothing new to the rest of the world. Which is the point; this is written for a specific audience and it works brilliantly in that way.

Fun, light reading. Of the three friends, I had the most problems believing Ellie's story and thought Leslie's story was the most realistic. Liked this book better than the only other Jude Deveraux book I've read - Forever and Always.
