Tinh Thần Tự Lực - Những Tấm Gương Về Phẩm Hạnh Và Lòng Kiên Trì Thư viện Sách hướng dẫn

Meh, a severe disappointment for me. I had certain preconceptions that this novel was going to be more of a thriller with a fast moving plot along with vivid characters. After all the book is about a secret societies (Angelogists) battle against the Nephilim, who are the evil, self serving, humanity corrupting offspring of women and angels.re is also a mythical object both sides are competing for. This object, a lyre, will a. free mankind from the clutches of the nephilim or b. give the nephilim increased power, health etc. Clues have been hidden in correspondence between a nun Mother Innocenta and Mrs. Rockefeller. These letters have been stumbled upon by a young art historian and a young nun, our love interest perhaps? So there should be the beginnings of rousing action, no? The answer is, sadly enough, indeed no. Instead we get massive amounts of description about how the initial letters were discovered, how the discovery of these letters then leads our young nun, Evangeline, to another nun, Celestine, who then tells a long convoluted story about her schooling in a school of angelology during the second world war and how the mythic object was discovered and so on and on and …. Character development is slim at best and many of the decisions the characters make seem irrational to me, nor is there any clear explanation given as to why the characters make the decisions they do. A few examples: early in the book Verlane our finder of the letters from Mother Innocenta goes to the convent she had once resided in to retrieve the other half of the correspondence. While he is there he sees two thugs break into his car, steal all his research and then totally trash the car. Does our hero then call the police as any reasonable person would do? No he starts off blindly walking in a snowstorm in inappropriate attire to get away from the thugs. Incidentally by the time the man reaches safety he should be suffering from exposure but no, he has himself a few beers and a hamburger. Another example of odd behavior occurs when Celestine, has just left a clandestine meeting only to eventually return to the meeting room to find four of her comrades dead, her professor explains that they were traitors and had to be shot. He gives no explanation for how he knows this. Now I would be hesitant to simply depart with a man who has shot four other people for how do I know he isn’t the traitor, especially as earlier in the evening he had dressed in Nazi clothing and seemed very comfortable in that world? However, Celestine does indeed depart with him. My favorite inconsistency however occurs about two thirds of the way into the story. Our nephilim villain and his sister have just torched the convent and Verlane, Evangeline and her grandmother have escaped from the convent. So where do these three go? They go to the grandmother’s apartment even though we’ve been told earlier that she and all other high ranking Angelologists are under surveillance. Turns out all the other high ranking angelogists are meeting there as well. Don’t ya think this wouldn’t tip off the enemy that perhaps something important is going on? I also don’t understand why the Nephilim were willing to attack Verlane by entering his apartment but are unwilling to enter the grandmother’s apartment to look for important documentation. Oh, and even though everyone thinks the lyre has been lost as Mrs. Rockefeller told no one where it was hidden and no one knew about the letters it turns they simply could have asked Alistair Carroll, Mrs. Rockefellers assistant. After all the elaborate hidden clues that must be deciphered in the letters it turns out he knows not only where all the parts are hidden but also in what order they were to be found. Aargh! Yet another of the “guardians” of a lyre part has had angelologist training and another mentions that he thought he’d die before someone came to collect the part yet none of them think “hmm, it’s been a really long time and no one has come to collect this really, really important thing. Maybe I should try and reach out to an Angelogist.” After all one of the guardians has a list of the possible names who would collect the object. Finally, the icing on the cake in terms of WTFery has to be the scene at the ice rink where one of their number is going to sacrifice themselves so the others can escape and yet the others run maybe 50 ft and then THEY JUST STAND there.
