This was a fascinating book that helped me to understand what Tibet was like, at least from a Westerner's perspective, before the Chinese invasion in 1959. A quick read, very enjoyable.

Just a good beginning to a great series. I loved it.
An entertaining history of the management consulting profession. Many people blame consultants for all that is wrong in the business world, but while this book certainly doesn't paint a flattering picture, it reveals the depth of contribution that has been made to in many ways improving our competitive position in the world. The book did not change my perception of the management consulting industry, which I am part of. I read many, many business/management books. Each time, I come away agreeing with the concepts discussed, seeing ways to apply the thinking. The problem arises when one tries to apply a singular concept to every situation. The problems that arise are discussed in this book. The role of the management consultant (in my eyes) is not to apply specific tools to a company's problem, but to construct a framework that allows a company's leadership to see the organization in a new way, paving the way for improvement. The real value a consultant brings to the table is that outsider's perspective - not specific magic bullets. Of note, you will become comfortable with a new phrase after reading this book - Greater Taylorism.

A grim American tale that is sparse with names but pregnant with provocation. Cormac Mccarthy does a wonderful job of boiling down how fragile our humanity can become in dire and desperate situations. While gruesome in parts, the narrative carries the reader through a captivating and haunting tale that leaves you thinking about yourself as much as the characters in the story.

Though the last 1/4 of the book is nothing but a long tirade against the PMRC (among other things), the preceding text more than makes up for it. Though there's a picture of his family, he gives very little information about his parents and nothing (not even names) for his siblings. However, you will get (in great detail): how he got into music, his love of Varese, how he met his wife, how he almost got in a fight with John Wayne, what he does for a living, slightly disturbing tour stories, his fight to get his symphonic work performed, and how he balances home life with creative life.
