One of my very favorite Doonesburies. Joanie finally marries Rick, almost on the same day that Charles marries Di. (It was originally going to be exactly the same day, but Lacey convinces her that everyone will just want to watch TV). Zonker turns up in tails and Bermudas, plus a black protest armband; he's made desperate attempts to talk Joanie out of it, but to no avail. As it turns out, Joanie was right and Zonker was wrong. There is a wonderful mixup with the wedding presents. Rick removes all the tags, so they don't know who's sent what. He has to phone every guest and find out what their gift was, without revealing what's happened. Finally, he gives up when he's talking to one of his elderly relatives. As he says, thank you, and he really loves the present! Except that he doesn't know what it is. The relative is unfazed. He can't remember either, he tells Rick happily. What have they got it narrowed down to?

I loved the middle part of this book. It started out a little slow with an overwhelming number of statistics. I understand he had to prove that his argument was legitimate, but there comes a point where telling me that 87% of the 68% of the 12% of the 57% of the 28 % of non readers are blah blah blah...The middle of the book had great advice and some really strong points. Then the end of the book lagged into politics. Overall I liked it, but I had to force myself to begin it and almost torture myself to finish it. I flew threw the middle, so if you're looking for great information on digital learning, just skip there!

Detective writing as its best. Dan Brown provides great details in depicting his characters and makes his novel a great thrill to read.
This book bestowed a sense of peace upon me, like none other. When I read books I tend to have an inner voice, projecting the words loudly, quickly, slowly or the like depending on the pace and tone of the story. This novella, however, is the only one I've come across that is read in a whisper, a sort of sad, dreamy hush likened to the feeling and sound when one exhales. To this day it is the mother of one of my favorite quotes... "She knows that she needs new friends, but introductions are hard to come by when your natural state is shyness."
So far I am only three or four chapters into it, and it is everything I'd hoped it'd be so far. You really get to see somewhat of a character study as young James Osterburg steadily evolves from Overachieving popular school boy into the down-on-his-upside godfather of punk, Iggy Pop. It starts from his youth, describing himself and his parents, not to mention that though you would think a man such as him would come from a bleak environment, in truth he was part of the upper echelon of his classes. He not only ran for school offices, but he also signed a friend's year book "From the 43rd presdient of the united states, J. Osterburg". Many actually felt that is what he would be...until he found the Blues. So far I have traveled with his meeting of the Asheton brothers, to his brief fling with Nico, the germanic beauty of 'The Velvet Underground', to his kinship with the MC5, and the crafting of the debut album by 'the Stooges'. I definetaly recommend this book, and not just to the ones listed in my recommendations category. This truly is an American tale of the dream, and then waking up to it. It's an excellent character study as you seem to get a very good idea of how the steady process of mitigating circumstance coupled up with a man who tried to master his own fate, came to effect Iggy. His brazen youth, so far, has been filled with all the wimsy of any book that speaks of young, wild boys enjoying life recklessly without care, and with ample smiles. It reminds you of the energy of the age. When I am finished with the book, I will elaborate more. However, only one hundred pages into the book, and I am definetaly happy with my purchase. I will absolutely keep this book on my shelf for years to come, to read about the icon of punk rock; James "Iggy stooge/Pop" Osterburg. P.S. ...my apologies if I made any typographical errors in this briefest of reviews.

A SAVORY AND EXOTIC EXPEDITION! What a page turner! So beatifully written - you feel as though you are on the adventure with Victoria! Her descriptions of each adventure from preparing meals in a cramped kitchen as the waves knocked her around, to swimming with the dolphins and the friendships and romance ...keep you waiting for what is going to happen next! And the mouth watering descriptions of her food preparations make you so grateful that the recipes are at the end of the chapter! Highly recommend!

One of the strongest series going right now - Kerr continues to impress with his ability to weave together historical fact with his imperfect-but-appealing protagonist. Best of all, he sheds much-needed light on the fact that the fallout from Nazism wasn't even close to over at VE Day.
One of the best books I have ever read!

I really enjoyed this novel. It was about a american girl and her realtionship with her father over the course of their lives - weaved with the events in China in the 1940's and 1950's. I thought that I would just get wrapped up with all the fun historical details, - but I found myself really taken in with the story of thefather/daughter relatioship. Really, really enjoyable

I recognize that this is probably a great work of art, but I didn't enjoy reading it at all. All the symbolism was lost on me beneath the the filth--i.e., the actual descriptions of filth were unpleasant, but even more so was the portrait of utter depravity of humanity. I think I like my depravity doled out in smaller doses. All in all, yuck.

Vulcans siz misiniz? Lanet olsun, ben o berbatım.
