A most enjoyable historical novel set in the aftermath of WWII America when atomic energy was all the rage. The story revolves around two teens whose fathers work/ed in the atomic energy field. The girls are smart and interested in technology and science, in a way that most of their female peers are not, and work at trying to fit into their high school world. The book deals effectively with the issues of family, minorities and gender inequalities. I quite liked it. My one complaint is that slang words and phrases from the era seemed to be thrown in a way that didn't quite flow. I'm picky about that stuff and so more sensitive to it, I guess. It's hard to write about another time period and not put our own perceptions into theirs.

Didn't care for this one. Heavy-handed propaganda overshadows the story. It's not that I disagree with his message, it's just laid on way too thick.

Parts of this book were really good, but other parts drug. Not the best book from Melina Marchetta, but still enjoyable.

Seabiscuit is one of my favorite books so I was very happy to see Laura Hillenbrand had another book out. This author is truly captivating. This book makes me think of words: Survival, Resilience and Redemption are some. Dignity and belief (not hope surprisingly) are some of the others. Shark is another - but that's only a small portion of this book. And once again ... the biggest word is forgiveness. I think everyone needs to know what some men have done for our freedoms and I think we owe a huge thank you to these individuals. These individuals that have given some or given all. Louis Zamperini's story is incredible and amazingly he survived the physical endurances he was faced with - even the emotional ghosts that haunted him after the war. It's hard to believe the country went through such a time and also the POW's in the pacific. Great read.

This book was a solid "OK". Easy enjoyable read, but not overly engaging.

Books 3 and 4 in the series were great - I couldn't put this one down until all the loose ends were wrapped-up. Books 1 and 2 were good, but the action really picked up in 3 and 4.

It was a great book, but like so many that are on the best seller list I had super high expectations; and there were some parts that I thought dragged a bit.

** spoiler alert ** i really enjoyed it, the 'characters' of the three scientists were very good. having looked a little at the real people now that i've finished the book i suspect she has done her research well. i liked the sense that i was getting some history. but mostly the book is about america and the world seen through the eyes of three very intelligent people who are effectively aliens in it - outside observers. that said both ann and ben have a sense of the outsider, the watcher about them. especially ann. it has a dreamy kind of feel about it. the prose is wonderful and at times i thought i could have turned it onto poetry just by breaking it up into lines. some quotes... Szilard shook his head. [tv's in every seat on plane:]. -Modern man can't bear to be left alone with his thoughts for a second, can he? -What thoughts, answered Oppenheimer, and pulled out a book. 174 [Ben:] ... if the world gave us souls, why were the souls so impoverished? Most of them were so thin you could see right through them. 277 the book finishes when one of the scientists is murdered and then they are all 'taken up' into the sky/heaven by big white birds (that are virtually extinct). the book starts and ends with miracle. the followers (not ann and ben) record what happened and try and keep the story alive and look for signs of the three scientists' return. a fair few parallels here. also the original bomb test was called 'trinity' and the three scientists were also at times seen as a type of the trinity.

Stephanie Plum has a new car, which she manages to get blown up along with another car, her apartment gets torched and has the sexiest scene we have seen in books with Joe Morelli! We are introduced to Sally, the sexy cross dresser and code de-coder extraordinaire, with the help of Granda Mazur, Sally, Lula and of course Ranger and Joe Morelli can Stephanie find Maxine before it is too late? Bu iyi. Ancak bazı eylemlerden yoksundur. Alacakaranlık Efsanesi gibi ama daha az daha iyi.
