Tom Jones is considered the first novel. I can certainly see where it would be so, because in many ways it still has the hallmarks of a text that was not written with the flow of a story in mind. It's interesting, entertaining, and in many ways quite sly, but it also manages to be rambly, lengthy, unnecessarily verbose - and coming from yours truly, with my own penchant for being verbose and high tolerance for purple prose and book length, this is not a compliment - and in dire need of a good, knowledgeable editor. I read it for class, so it cannot be said, for my sins, that I was going into it with much eagerness, but at the same time i was by no means reluctant or loathe to read it, as in my experience it is always worthwhile to give books a try. On the whole, I would not say i was disappointed. I found myself entertained by the notions of the period, the historical background, and the characteristics that Fielding seems to sketch out so ably; at the same time I found myself glossing over some of the more gregarious asides, wishing that someone would take the book and 'tighten it up' so to speak to make the story flow a little better, and to make the reader a bit less inclined to flip pages as he goes. Admittedly, the story itself takes very much second place to social satire and setting, which makes the deviations from the plot, irrelevant digressions and scene studies that much more forgivable. You don't read Tom Jones to read a fascinating or unique plot; you read it for the social comedy and the author diatribes. Thus, though it leaves much to be desired as a novel, it certainly carries its own as a book.
Forester, better known for his Horatio Hornblower series, which I now want to read too, wrote a classic example of British mystery. I'd call it a sort of precursor of Ruth Rendell. Actually, there isn't much mystery about it, it's more a case of putting a person of weak character in a moment of temptation and then watching how it all unravels. Lucidly written. And if you want to find more discussion of classic British crime, among other things, check out Martin Edwards' excellent blog.

Listened on Audible - narrator did a great job with a fantastic story.
Anyone who likes fractured fairy tales or the darker side of these tales, will love this book. David, the main character, surrounds himself with books to ease the pain he feels in his real life. This eventually leads him to a realm where stories and nightmares become reality. This book features a frighteningly vicious character called the Crooked Man. Connolly has great imagination and writes well. This is a pretty quick read and has a great pace to it. It won a 2007 Alex Award from the American Library Association. This award is given annually to books written for adults that would appeal to teens.

heboh banget buku ini
The book is about a woman's struggle to deal with intense familial suffering. I feel like a bad person for feeling this, but the book just seemed incredibly self absorbed to the point of being almost painful. I'm sure she must not be, and that the book was probably a necessary part of her grieving process.
this is sooo sad!
Quite a different and interesting story. An easy read.

I started this book on the flight to Miami on Saturday, August 25, 2012 and thanks to Tropical Storm Isaac, finished it on Sunday, August 26th. Given my interest in the Civil War, in the narrative the author mentioned many names of persons and places with which I was very familiar. I was surprised (but shouldn't have been) at the clashes of egos over the search for the missing "fish boat" and subsequently for which state would benefit from its raising and ultimately get to keep it.
