The rise and fall of an unfortunate socialite. Recommended to me by my literature prof when I asked him for a 'light summer read'. Ended up depressing me for the whole summer; but it made its mark. I still have a strong impression from this book.

I really enjoyed this first book in the Weather Warden series. I liked the uniqueness of the whole weather warden world, along with the earth and fire wardens and their relationships with the Djinn. Jo was a very enjoyable character, as was David. I was a bit disappointed that we didn't see more of Lewis, as I found him quite intriguing. I also wonder if Paul will feature anymore in future books. I'm still undecided about the end, but I understand it furthers the series. I'll just have to keep reading to see how I think it works.

This is the second time I've tried to read this book. The first time, I just couldn't get into it. But it's been mentioned in a bunch of writing books as a good example, so I gave it another shot. This time I got much more into the story, and wasn't bogged down with the writing. Not heavy on dialogue, and the plot definitely meanders, but I really enjoyed it overall. It's odd when a book is this long but you wish there was another few hundred pages to go when you're done. It seemed like the story was just starting, rather than finishing up, which is kind of cool feeling to have when you finish something.
